Who really has the money and will to sign him if he comes back and plays well?

I looked at the teams with likely cap space and I don't really see a team that has the money that would be interested in paying him more than my proposed amount that he would at the same time be interested in going to.

 Indiana, Brooklyn, Chicago can offer.

But yeah I don't know. Maybe other teams drop a contract to make space.

Maybe we luck out and he plays well and we get him relatively cheap

Given the history of the two guys leading our front office, I wouldn't at all be surprised of early season trades, including EP.

We are playing so well without him that it would make sense to trade him for a PG that can shoot if possible. With EP, Mario, DJ, and picks available we should be able to pull off some kind of upgrade.

Here's the numbers.

Assuming max contract for Gordon, cutting mack, not picking up Mario's option, not resigning speights or afflalo we're at 103,475,560.

Salary cap is at 101m

Luxury tax is 123m

And a decision to make with Payton.

Ew. Even though things are looking up for once with a core of mostly guys Rob brought in, this is why Rob is gone. What's crazy is that I'm sure he originally intended on re-signing Serge Ibaka to a hefty long term deal too. Just didn't do a good job managing the cap, I'm interested in seeing what Weltman and Hammond will do about our cap situation.

Above are the cap numbers (Current/Max/Likely) that other teams can offer according to RealGM.

Atlanta- Have Schroder- Very unlikely

Boston- Kyrie/ no cap space

Brooklyn- Cap space- Have Russell and Lin. (Possible)

Charlotte- No cap space/ Kemba

Chicago- Possible

Cleveland- Unlikely to have cap space (If they do, possible)

Dallas- Have cap space/ Just drafted DSJ- very unlikely

Denver- Possible cap space/ no fit. Unlikely

Detroit- No cap space

Golden State- Lol

Houston- Yeah, right.

Indiana- Probably most likely alternate possibility.

LA Clippers- No real space

LA Lakers- Just got his Bally-ness and his son

Memphis- Nope

Miami- Next

Milwaukee- No space

Minnesota- Teague

New Orleans- On a Holiday (also this is funny- look at cap holds for Cunningham http://www.spotrac.com/nba/new-orleans-pelicans/cap/2018/)

New York- Would need Kanter to drop his option to have real space I think

Oklahoma City- Westbrook World

Orlando- US! (Restrict that Man)

Philadelphia- Fultz Gold

Phoenix- The land of the Dying sun (How do they have no space)

Portland- Lillardia

Sacramento- Maybe, but just got Foxed

San Antonio- Doesn't fit/ no space

Toronto- The north remains dead

Utah- Too Salty (Got nothin, but they got no real space)

Washington- Wall to Wall Wall

Indiana is really the only real possibility there, I think. Most of the teams that need a PG don't have space.

Would Indiana give Payton all that money to play alongside Oladipo given the inconsistent results we had with those two starting alongside each other?

Yeah.  Bad timing having a win now mandate when everyone has buckets of cash. Led to bad deals across the board

Maybe? Oladipo now has a semi-dependable three-pointer which should help with spacing issues.

The Bulls are rebuilding, not sure they want to add the salary.

And Brooklyn kind of has 2 starting level PGs (depending upon how Russell plays out the season and if Lin can come back healthy).

Yep. Over 24 million tied up in Bismack and Augustin. That is basically a max contract.

Could have drafted him

Nah, remember the draft flattened out after a while and none of those guys were worth it.
