Smith Fournier, even though I hate Fournier's guts

I gotta go with Payton monk. Haven't given up on ep yet but fournier is dead to me. With one caveat, get rid of Vuc and Evan may play team ball.

So my question is this...

I'm totally fine with it if the decision is that Elfrid Payton is NOT the PG of the future.

However, that being said, I do believe that Elfrid is good enough so as that PG is NOT the top need on our team.

So, do we want to spend a top pick on a position where we are already adequate, foregoing greater needs?

Or is Smith that good that it's worth picking at a position where we are already solid, while still leaving our other holes unaddressed?

For me, even if Smith is the player that I'd prefer, I'm not sure that it's at the position we need to go.

But the counter to that is... just pick the damned best player available. At some point, you just need players. Go get the best player and figure out the rest later.

And who knows, if we can get Smith, perhaps we can flip Payton for other assets.

There's arguments to be made on both sides.

Pick the best player. Figure the rest out afterwards.

You go after the guy who you feel can be the best first option on offense. If that's smith, you take him. If 19 year old Blake Griffin was in this draft you take him despite having Gordon.

Agreed. The duo has to be split up.

Would you all be happier with Smith fournier as your backcourt or Payton monk?

I'd be happier with Smith Monk.

so this is an interesting premise. Because short term you're getting a higher chance that you're going to get a star. The odds of either smith or monk becoming an all star is better than just betting on one.

but in the long term you're setting yourself up with two terrible defensive players. if both smith and monk hit you'll have to trade one.

But I guess you do that regardless because it'd still be worth it.

Basically, could potentially turn into Portland East if we were able to get the two of them. That, plus Gordon, would make us into much watch TV, even if we aren't that good.

I think you have to take Smith because it's just too risky to commit long term $$ to Payton. If Payton's ego could handle it he would be perfect off the bench with either Ross or Fournier. Smith just seems like an athlete with a bit of a chip on his shoulder which is what this team needs.
