Toronto GM Jeff Weltman new President of Basketball Ops

Recommended Posts

Can someone explain to me the reasoning in firing ALL of our scouts and personell 30 days before the Draft?(if the reports are accurate). This makes me nervous as we have four picks on this year draft.

My guess is that the Magic already got what they needed from them or the new hire comes with his new team and scouting reports.

I am not excited nor disspointed. At this point, you have to ride the train and see where it takes you.

well, I imagine they submitted their reports for the past year so I think we have that. We have time to workout players at 6. and Weltman has been reviewing guys he likes at 23 so I'm sure some of those guys overlap with what we plan to do at 25.

I would assume it's because the last guys were bad at drafting players.

I'm pretty happy with the team on this one. My expectations were pretty low and they managed to hire someone who is very experienced (28 years in the nba) while also being an up and comer and not some retread of another executive who failed somewhere else. Also this guy wasn't a past magic player or coach.

I have no idea if this is the best candidate or if he's even a good candidate because I don't really know him and its difficult to judge the competency of executives. We have to rely on reporters talking about his qualifications. But the team made a really justifiable hire and that's a good thing.

Agree

im just going to aggregate some old Weltman stuff because there's no one else doing this.

Suns president of basketball ops Lon Babby endorsed Jeff Weltman, then with the Bucks and now with the Raptors, for the Phoenix GM job this summer, but Sarver made the decision to hire Ryan McDonough instead, according to Bickley.

•Ric Bucher of 95.7 The Game (via Sulia) confirms reports that Bucks assistant GM Jeff Weltman is the frontrunner to be the next Suns' general manager, adding that president Lon Babby was eyeing Weltman back before the team hired Lance Blanks

The rising expectation in league circles is that Bucks GM John Hammond will join longtime colleague Jeff Weltman in Orlando as new Magic GM

Ok. Fair enough. I have a somewhat mixed opinion on Hammond but I'm not against this.
