2017 Official Offseason Thread

I think indy has a good argument of being in the group with us.

Perhaps, but Pacers FO just was not real aggressive in free agency. Salary at $91 million, below the cap and not much activity in free agency when they could have been. Just a feeling they are more in rebuild mode.

2020 1st rounder will probably be in the mid to late 20's range and thatt is the best part of this deal. Looks like a Hennigan or John Gabriel type deal for us. Hope there is no truth to that deal.

its a bleacher report guy trying to come up with a way to get Carmelo to Houston.

They have to come up with crazy deals because of the following:

1. Houston is hard capped which means they cant go above 125,266,000 in salary. They're currently at 121,961,344. So they can only add 3.3 million +change in trades, minimum free agents, etc.

2. Houston dumped most of their roster in trades. this means they can only trade these players right now: Ryan Anderson, Trevor Ariza, eric gordon, Capela, and several guys who are signed near the minimum.

so based on the above, Houston pretty much has to include Ryan Anderson in the trade (who arguably has the worst contract in the league) but they also have to clear an additional 4-5 million in the trade just to absorb Carmelo's money under their hard cap. But why would New York want Anderson? They wouldn't. So you need a third team involved to take on Anderson's salary. Houston already has their 2018 pick owed to Atlanta so they can only trade their 2020 pick or later. To make things worse, nobody has cap space this offseason to absorb Anderson's salary. A team like philly or phoenix would have to include 7-8 million in returning salary.

So Houston needs to include picks to a team to rent their cap space. But the price for that is at least two lightly protected future firsts. Toronto had to pay a same year first rounder and a second rounder to dump Carroll who has 2/30 left on his deal. The cost to absorb Anderson's 3/60 is going to be significantly more. If Houston uses their first rounders they have nothing to offer for Carmelo.

This is why that trade is practically impossible right now unless the knicks want to dump Carmelo that bad that they just give him away or buy him out.

Passing on DSJ is bothering me more and more everyday.

The main problem is if Payton doesn't get better there's not a really obvious way to get better at that position. No free agents next year. Collin Sexton might be the only player in the draft and theres nothing there (yet) that says he's a good bet for being a great nba starter.

So Hezonja, Augustine, and Ross for Asik, Hill, and a 2020 1st rounder from Houston?

If someone actually calls with that trade there should only be two possible responses:

1) Laugh, say "seriously, why did you really call", and then hang up the phone; or

2) Say, "no, no, and hell no", and then hang up the phone.

Notice what both responses have in common - HANG UP THE PHONE.

That and even if a PG becomes available, their value is so high now. Remember when C's were so valuable? Now it's PG'S.

I will not be surprised if we go after IT hard if that is the case. I will be extremely disappointed to say the least.

That's a crazy trade. I think Boston is giving up too much

They had to. Cleveland was ready to take Vuc, Fournier, and Hezonja for Irving. Ya'll thinking our management ain't trying, well that's why Boston had to up the ante!
