Payton is going to get paid just not by us. We don't have a roster that suits him, and we're far away from getting one.

Put him on the Cavs, surrounded by Crowder, IT, Love, Korver, shooters galore. Put him in San Antonio, heck even the clippers.

Yes, trade payton for lebron, i see what your doing. Id probably have to make that trade sadly.

Admittedly, probably too much of this article skews negatively toward Cleveland. Considering what was on the table in Irving rumors, this trade is a home run. It’s probably a good trade without getting the Brooklyn pick. Turning Irving into Thomas and Crowder is a great return that gives you some options down the road. If you rebuild, you can move Crowder for a nice asset. Otherwise, you keep trying to roll with the talent you have. But the Cavs did get that Brooklyn pick and that makes this trade an incredible haul. For a while, it seemed like their best hope surrounded acquiring Josh Jackson from Phoenix or Andrew Wiggins from Minnesota.

Instead, they ended up with an All-Star point guard, a bargain role player and a high-level lottery pick. So why did Ainge give away the pick? Was that necessary? Did he get fleeced in acquiring Irving? Couldn’t he have gotten Paul George or Jimmy Butler with that pick? And if so, wouldn’t you rather have those guys and keep Thomas in the process? Ainge has been so tight with picks and trade assets that this seems like a strange time to give up the Brooklyn pick unprotected.

At the same time, you look at their core swaps for the offseason and you’re essentially looking at an overall win. They brought in Irving, Hayward and Marcus Morris. They sent out Avery Bradley, Thomas, and Crowder. The Irving-Hayward-Morris trio is better than what they gave up. But is it so much better when you factor in the Brooklyn pick? The landscape of the East continues to change and get weirder. Boston and Cleveland remain at the forefront of this ever-changing weirdness.

I think Cleveland got an incredible deal, especially when you consider what Indiana got for George and Chicago got for Butler.

Yes I agree and Cleveland will still get their hat handed to them by the warriors.

Cavs got a great deal and Boston did wwll also. That is what happens when you have assets. Cavs got closer to warriors and, if D. Wade joins the Cavs, as reported, then in the words of SedDef Mattes it is "game on!"

Wonder if Cavs or Celts could be enticed to give up one of those good first round picks next year. Probably not to us!!!!!

  • Houston Rockets Receive: Carmelo Anthony

New York Knicks Receive: Terrence Ross, Mario Hezonja, Tim Quarterman, Shawn Long, 2018 second-round pick (from CHA, MEM or MIA, via HOU)

Orlando Magic Receive: Omer Asik, Solomon Hill, 2020 top-five protected pick (from HOU)

New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Ryan Anderson, D.J. Augustin

Put four teams into a single transaction, and things just might get silly. That's what happened here, as the Knicks fail to find a first-round pick, a surefire centerpiece or an intriguing rookie.

But Ross and Hezonja were both top-10 selections in their respective drafts, and each intrigues for a different reason. While Ross' numbers may always fluctuate, he can be relied upon for floor spacing and above-the-rim finishing. Hezonja has yet to justify being the No. 5 pick in 2015, but he's a 22-year-old with loads of athleticism and shooting range.

The Rockets once again pry Anthony loose using only Anderson, non-guaranteed contracts and draft considerations. Space City is on board.

It's a tougher sell to Orlando, which gives up youth and gains Asik's awful deal. Barring further activity, the Magic would have more than $39 million tied up next season in an Asik, Nikola Vucevic, Bismack Biyombo center rotation. That's brutal.

But draft picks remain the Magic's best roster-builder, and they add one for letting Asik's money rot on the books. They also pick up one of head coach Frank Vogel's former pupils in Hill, who has the size and dexterity to fit Orlando's evolving, positionless defense.

Speaking of reunions, Anderson winds up back in the Big Easy, a city he departed just last summer. The Pelicans have reportedly wanted in on the Anthony multiteam talks, a source told
Marc Berman of the New York Post. While that doesn't mean the Pellies are eyeing Anderson, his stroke would fit snugly alongside both Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins as New Orleans' third big.

The Pelicans also might be one of the few teams that doesn't balk at Anderson's price tag. Because while he's getting his $61 million over the next three seasons, Hill and Asik will collect $72.1 million.

So Hezonja, Augustine, and Ross for Asik, Hill, and a 2020 1st rounder from Houston?

So now that KI is traded I see the Eastern conference like this.

Cavs and Celts--# 1 or 2 with slight edge to Cavs especially if they get D Wade

Wizards and Raptors # 3 and 4

Bucks #5

# 6, 7, 8 are between the Hornets, Heat, Philly (if healthy), Pistons, and Magic in that order---#8 could be a huge battle and I give us a shot.

then the have nots

Pacers, Nets, Bulls, Knicks and Hawks are playing Philly ball next year vying for #1 pick---good thing for them is that it is a deep draft

I think indy has a good argument of being in the group with us.

So Hezonja, Augustine, and Ross for Asik, Hill, and a 2020 1st rounder from Houston?

2020 1st rounder will probably be in the mid to late 20's range and thatt is the best part of this deal. Looks like a Hennigan or John Gabriel type deal for us. Hope there is no truth to that deal.

Wow, I'm surprised Cleveland got so much for Irving. This trade might actually make them better, and that's before you take the Brooklyn pick into consideration. Anyone find it kind of funny the first pick in the 2011 draft was traded for the last pick in the 2011 draft?
