2017 Official Offseason Thread

Actually it doesn't surprise me at all. It just should remind us that individual player stats aren't generated in a vacuum, and usually depend on the team (and coaching schemes) that surround them. Put a player with a well defined role on a team where he's expected to have a larger and/or different role and it's not surprising that he may not do as well.

Channing Frye, mentioned as an example in a recent post, illustrates the above very well. His role on offense is to be a 3-point threat. He doesn't create his own shot very well. On our team, with few other 3-point threats and lousy ball movement, he wasn't open that much. On Cleveland, with multiple other threats and much better passing, he is able to resume the role in which he is effective. This is exactly what I would have expected.

It's also a reason for my prior post about Payton's stats the last 19 games, and how or if that translated into anything in the win-loss department. The point guard in particular needs to make the other players on his team better, help them maximize their roles. Payton generated stats but I'm not sure he made anyone better.

The PG doesnt make the bench better when he is off the floor

Hello everyone, first post here (i think i registered here when Hezonja was drafted but forgot all the info about that account)

anyway, reason i registered is to post about the reason why Hezonja said no to national team this summer (and also can be an explanation for his bad play last season). all news web portals in Croatia today shared his side of the story about why he said no to national team. apparently he has problems with tendinitis (i assume on his leg, he doesn't specify in article, just that he has problems with a tendon) and has it since middle of last season (again he doesn't specify exactly when did the problems start)

he is in LA right now training on special programme to help heal his tendon

the reason why he spoke out now is that he told national team coach that because of tendinitis he can't(won't) play and expected NT coach will tell that to the press which coach didn't do and press called out Hezonja (and Zubac of the Lakers, Zizic of the Celtics) for not playing for NT, so he wanted to set the record straight

the article(in Croatian):

Well that may explain why hezonja was absolute trash last year

And here we all thought it was to get more NBA acclimated lol

It may be both. But hopefully that gets figured out and he can become something.

Also, thanks for the share agramer.

Permanent case of achilles tendonitis would not be good. He's done. Trade him.

Is there any reason for us to think it's permanent? Even if so, what do you think he's worth? My guess is almost nothing.

If only our bench were the entire problem. There were plenty of games last year where our starters were awful also, in fact most of them. And don't forget that Payton came off the bench for a number of games last season.
