Frank Vogel was extolling to his team they would have to sprint and play harder than every other team in the floor. That did not mean just diving on the floor for loose balls, but getting up and down the floor faster and executing their offense better than their opponents. Every game. Every day.

That led him to his final drill on this first day of practice. The players would pass the ball to a coach at the elbow, receive the ball and immediately pass it to another coach on the elbow at the other side of the court. They would sprint to keep up, receive the ball back and finish with a left-handed layup.

The team would have two minutes to make 82 of these layups as a unit.

When they failed, Vogel reiterated his team would have to find another gear. There is always another gear. They could not relent or take plays off.

He gave them a second chance, to make 41 layups in one minute this time. This is when the team got animated. They were not going to fail again.

I'll be happy if we finally get a win over the Wizards and / or Cavs

im not holding my breath. Don't think we matchup well with Washington or Cleveland assuming Wall continues to shoot like he did last year.

But I think we'll dominate Milwaukee and Chicago if that helps.

Also, New York. think we matchup well with them too.

The Pistons are also a nightmare matchup for us. We have to win most of those games if we want to make the playoffs. Just look at that final stretch

Pistons are interesting because it's one of the only matchups where Biyombo might not be able to bother the opposing center and Jackson might totally destroy Payton. Gordon/ibaka on harris/morris leans our way IMO.

Fournier/KCP depends on what Fournier and what KCP show up that day.

this is where we might want to go weird with a Fournier-hezonja lineup to junk up the game.

Frank Vogel said Elfrid Payton's practice status "day-to-day" because of the strained hip flexor. That leaves Payton's timetable unclear.

I think Evan Fournier is a Top 10 shooting guard in the NBA. Cry me a freakin' river.

@MokeHamilton

kinda depends on what version of Fournier is the real Fournier. 19ppg Fournier you can probably argue is a top 6 or 7 sg depending on if you want to include Middleton and assuming Wiggins and Batum are small forwards. 11ppg Fournier is definitely not a top 10 sg and definitely closer to top 20

SG has been the weakest position in the league for years. Center might take that spot in the upcoming years

its funny. you have to go down to #24 on Draft Express' 2017 mock draft before you find a SG. Maybe Hield, Murray, valentine, and Beasley will be good and bring SG back to prominence.
