Odin 137 Report post Posted August 1, 2016 what I would have done differently: not made the arenas trade and see if you could limit Lewis' minutes with Anderson to save him for the playoffs and trade Bass and Gortat for a decent backup point guard. Not traded Carter and Gortat for hedo, Richardson, and clark. You get to see if they can pull it together for the playoffs. Instead toiling with no cap space for multiple years post Dwight trade you get full cap space immediately. Basically, Otis did a pretty good job until the last two or so big moves. magicblue 315 Report post Posted August 1, 2016 most of this is incorrect. 1. Otis had a huge hand in selecting Dwight and Jameer. 2. he very likely would have drafted Sean May in 2005, not granger. considering we still had francis, Stephenson, hedo, and grant hill. We needed an upgrade to Tony Battie(hence the late trade for Darko). 3. Stan said Lewis wouldn't have come without the extra money. I'd take Lewis over Carter every day of the week for what the magic were. Lewis was irreplaceable for the magic those first few years. 4. Carter was a free agent the same year as Lewis. There was no other cap room. the reason we had that summer to make a move was it occurred right before Dwight's contract extension. 5. Carter wasn't a desperation move. It was a no brainer. Every move prior to June 23 2010 (with the exception of Fran) was fantastic. Every move after that date was terrible. Not sure what happened. Desperation? Otis still inherited Howard and Jameer when he took over GM duties regardless of his input into them being drafted. Not sure how or why you would argue that. My point about FA is that if we had drafted BPA which was Granger it may not have necessitated the signing of Rashard Lewis and instead we could have gone after "fools gold" Vince Carter. Gordon at 3 is a question mark. Payton is a question mark. Depth and lineup versatility is more of a reason for optimism than that specific lineup
The Neighborhood Bully 266 Report post Posted August 2, 2016 But in moving to the supposedly weaker Eastern conference, will Ibaka actually dominate? Can he clearly become the best player on this team, while also possibly getting his first All-Star nod? Is he going to be everything his new team needs him to be? On paper this seems a real possibility, the situation Ibaka finds himself in has been set up to get the most out of his skill set. This should excite Magic fans. In Elfrid Payton, Ibaka has a pass-first point guard who will get him the ball both inside the paint and out. Combine that with Bismack Biyombo, a monstrous rim protector but minimal offensive threat, and it’s easy to see why Ibaka can average nearly 20 points a night (his career high:15.1). With the Oklahoma City Thunder, Ibaka’s primary job was to protect the rim, as well as hitting open jumpers while both Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were heavily guarded. With Biyombo behind him, Ibaka will be free to show us what he can do when the offense plays through him. He is a great defensive player himself, and so sticking him beside center Nikola Vucevic will create it’s own wacky mismatch problems for opponents. In fact, it’s tough to see any scenario developing where Ibaka isn’t a success with his new team. He has spoken before about wanting to have a bigger role with a team. This Magic team is crying out for a leader, so there’s no question Ibaka is now the man here. http://hoopshabit.co...ibaka-dominate/
HighAngleDad 36 Report post Posted August 2, 2016 The roster also still shows Dedmon and Marble. it's weird that we only have 13 players. I wonder if we're just going to poach boston's leftovers

the notorious S.A.C. 89 Report post Posted August 2, 2016 Ummm, no, hockey guy drafted Howard and traded for Jameer Nelson. Otis inherited a prime Howard and Jameer. He could have drafted Granger the following year but instead took Vasquez who never played a game in the NBA. Then outbid himself for Rashard Lewis even doing a sign and trade with Seattle to pay him more than we could sign him for outright. If we had drafted Granger we could have made a play for Vince Carter in his prime instead of Rashard Lewis or at the very least had the cap space to add pieces. Instead we were strapped and then got desperate trading for a declining Carter and re-signing Hedo. Otis should get no credit for getting us to the Finals, all he did was overpay Rashard Lewis, who everyone knew was coming to Orlando anyways. Lets be honest Dwight was a very comparable talent to Lebron in his early years. The league was more big man focused than it is today. Here Otis inherited a team with significant cap space and a player who you could debate was a better talent to build around than Lebron. D12 no matter how much we dislike him today was in his time putting up numbers even Shaq didnt put up. He was a routine 20/20 guy which is impressive and was a virtual eraser for the lack of perimeter defense we had. Otis also inherited Jameer on a rookie deal in which case he is still better than any point guard on our roster by a mile. Devos unlike today didnt put restraints on spending for the team. You had SVG as coach who was one of our best coaches ever. In the end you couldnt have an easier time of assembling a long term championship caliber team. Then came his insane trades where you scratched your head (twice). Then came the overpaying. Then came lack of homework year after year in the draft. Then came the all in moves at the end because he didnt care about the long term effects on the team....oh and Gilbert. After this post Im going back to my therapist...he hasnt seen me with an Otis induced event in a while.
