here's some interesting tidbits.

Lineup stats over the last 5 games (excluding lineups that have played fewer than 5 cumulative minutes together or lineups that have only been used in 1 game)

Our best lineups:

Oladipo-Fournier-Harris-Frye-Vucevic has played 11 minutes and has an offensive rating of 117.8 and a defensive rating of 61.9

Oladipo-Fournier-Gordon-Harris-Vucevic has 18 minutes with ratings of 135.5 and 81.1

Oladipo-Hezonja-Gordon-Nicholson-Smith has 19 minutes with ratings of 108.4 and 93.8

starting lineup is 75 minutes with 106.5 and 108.9

over 6 games it's 111.4 and 108.8

over 7 games its 110.9 and 105.8

over 10 games its 111.3 and 101.8

So I think what we're seeing is a drastic reduction in defensive effectiveness since Payton was hurt. Our best bet is probably going Oladipo for payton for a while as Oladipo, while sloppy, has been very positive as a point guard over the past several games. he's one of 3 players who have a net positive rating over the last 6 games with Fournier and Vucevic.

Payton has arguably been our worst player (competing with Jason Smith) over the last 6 games

Yeah time to change the SL

I think it makes sense temporarily. The numbers show the starting lineup was working. It's not now. The only recent issue has been Payton's health.

So you have two logical options:

1. Push through this

2. Let Payton rest for a bit.

Both make sense. The overreaction would be to permanently change the starting lineup (at least something more than Nicholson for Frye) because I'm not sure that's needed. Payton has been horrible the last few games or so and I don't believe in wholesale changes based on short term problems.

Lineup Change Possible to Address Defensive Concerns

"When we talked to the guys (Sunday) morning about if we have any intention of playing in the postseason or having a chance of winning a series, generally you don’t win a (playoff) game 120-111,’’ continued Skiles, referring to both the short-term and long-term benefits of playing solid defense. ``You might win one game, but generally it’s 96-91. If we don’t understand that now, there won’t be a postseason anyway.’’

``Victor has been our most consistent energy guy. That’s something that we can count on,’’ Skiles said on Sunday. ``I’m not leery of (changing his role). It’s something that we may do. Victor is our best on-the-ball defender. Over (eight) games and you have a precipitous drop like that, we have to address the defensive end. Oladipo almost single-handedly kept Orlando in Friday’s game in Washington with his on-ball pressure and ability to fight over screens against Wizards’ all-star John Wall. But when Oladipo was out of the game or guarding other players, Wall had his way with the Magic’s defense.

Orlando (19-15) could be without Payton on Monday night after the already hobbled point guard was accidentally kicked in the shin/ankle in the third quarter of Saturday’s loss. Payton, who is already battling two sprained ankles and a cold, didn’t practice on Sunday and will be a game-time decision on Monday night.

If Payton can’t play, Oladipo said he’ll be ready to step in and initiate the team’s offense from the point guard position.

Hopefully the wheels don't fall off

I don't know if the wheels fall off, but there's a lot of evidence that we're a 40 win team masquerading as a 49 win team.

But 40 wins is a 60% improvement on wins from last year. And 40 wins is very good for the team tied for second youngest in the league. Especially considering that no team in the bottom 6 in age has a better record than we do.

Other than oladipos defense he is very suspect. No vision, can't finish, mediocre ball handling, bad from 3. You can spew numbers all u want. These are the facts of his game.

He's struggling. This time last year Dipo was playing good all around basketball.

and yet we're better with him on the floor.

so maybe oladipo's defense is so good that it overcomes his faults?
