Tyler Harvey

Recommended Posts

I tried to resist watching the highlight video but I gave in. I see a lot of people comparing his shot to Curry, while I absolutely believe he can shoot his release is nowhere near as fast as Curry's. He seems to have a slight hesitation right before release. With that said it doesn't really matter as I would be happy if he finds a way onto the team and contributes.

hmmm....

Etwaun Moore might be his ceiling. If he ended up being on Lou Wiliams level then this is one of the best (if not the best) picks at this spot on the draft clock of all time. I would say he has about 1-5 % chance of ever being as good as Lou Williams, there is a reason why he was still on the board at our pick and I see his game transitioning much better in overseas leagues where his completely lack of athleticism is not completely exhibited by his opposition.

You're aware that Lou Williams was picked 45th overall right?

If it were also Lou Williams first season then there may be some comparisons (though Lou Williams is still a lot more athletic). But, of course Lou Williams has been in the league for years, all I am saying is that there is a much higher chance that he will be much less than a Lou Williams. Here are all players picked at 51 that have stuck in the NBA in the last 20 years:

* Kyle Korver (2003)

That is a strike rate of 5%

As for the spote Lou Williams was picked, there is a much higher strike rate including Goran Dragic, Matt Bonner and Matt Barnes.

So I will not be one to expect nor hold my breath for Harvey to be any more than an extra body for the time being. I hope he becomes more and ends up being a find like Lou Williams, but I doubt this will be the case.

Maybe you misunderstood what I said. I said he "shoots" like Michael Redd meaning his form and release. What I do see is a solid scoring combo guard off the bench. Obviously it'll be about 2-3 years down the line but these are my opinions below:

Best case scenario: Danny Green

What I think he will be: Lou Williams

Worst case scenario: E'Twaun Moore

I think I understood you just fine. The players you listed aren't just NBA rotation players, they are actual very productive NBA players that had/are having long careers. It's very difficult to find those players in the second round and even harder to find them late in the second round where Harvey was taken. It's a clear sign that your expectations are too high when you think the worst case scenario is Moore who still managed to play a couple of seasons in the NBA. The worst case scenario is Harvey gets cut in training camp and never sniffs an NBA court.

I was only referring to your Michael Redd comment so once again you must've misunderstood what I said. You said Michael Redd would be through the moon when I never said he'd be like Michael Redd

Do I seriously need to quote your original comments from the first page to remind you what you said? It seems like I do.

I didn't think Harvey looked good in SL. In particular, there were a couple games where he played with Hezonja that really pissed me off. It was clear he had something to prove and he was distracted by trying to put up individual numbers. At PG he looked to score and displayed zero instincts as a distributor. He dominated the ball when he was in and looked very average. Granted, putting him on the Blue team set him up to look bad. However, I like Appling better as a prospect for third string PG.

He does not look like a player that will make it in the NBA from my opinion. I reckon his ceiling would be 12-15 man on a team(s) for up to 5 years until his age removes any potential upside. He is just too much of a one trick pony and his deficiencies are too damaging.

I'll agree with you on that.

Considering where he was picked, I don't have a problem with taking a gamble on a 3 PT specialist. Doubtful if he makes the cut, but certainly worth the low risk.

I think the Napier addition probably eliminates Harvey's chances of making the team.

The plus side is the team is finally deep enough where being a second round pick doesn't guarantee you a roster spot on this squad.
