This discussion is getting a little silly.

 

I think a lot of us are enjoying watching Payton play. It's true we've only seen a few games, but in that small sample size he actually took over one game and essentially won it with his defense at the end of the game. Not bad for a rookie in his first few games.

 

He makes a lot of good passes, along with some foolish rookie turnovers. Seems to have very good potential as a playmaker.

 

His tempo is refreshing and gets the team into the offense earlier. In general, I'd say we're making more passes on average during our offensive possessions than we have in the past few years.

 

On the negative side, his offensive game is pretty abysmal. That to me is the biggest question mark about his future. Right now, we're almost playing 4 v 5 on the offensive end when he's on the floor, which is a big disadvantage. Only time will tell whether he can develop that part of his game, which will be critical if he's to become a good/great PG.

Agreed. His offense is horrendous right now, but at least that can be learned from some hard work in the off-season.

His offense will get better when he learns how to finish at the rim better. I remember Oladipo struggling with this last season too, particularly the first couple of months.
