Lowry is replaceable, Patrick Patterson is NOT! He is the stretch 4 not far behind Anderson, Frye and he is the youngest in the group... Yes he is above Terrance Jones lol Houston! Yes the position is thin, and he is a scared commodity! I personally think this guy at least deserve Avery Bradley's amount of money for being a specialist. The Raptors are crowded up front, if they have to trade away guys to retain Patterson, I think they still have to do it.

Signing Patrick Patterson to start at the 4 would likely mean that the team is trying to have Gordon play the 3 which is a horrible idea.

I agree, to a point. I think Patterson starting until Gordon is ready is a solid idea, as he fits well with Harris, but Gordon as a full time 3 is not ideal for me. If they try it, I'll hope for the best, but to me he projects better as a 4 once he gains 10 lb or so.

Not sure if it is. His best shot is the 3 and he played sf most of his career. He can defend the 3 very well.

Also this allows him to develop at both sf and pf and as we know, the magic like guys who can play multiple positions.

Tobias would be a perfect 6th man and that's how he played for a good part last year.

If we get Patterson we should use Gordon as a 3 (like we used Oladipo at 1) to learn some shooting and bulk up a little bit and then move him to the 4, eventually.

Nailed it. Looks like the plan.

I really hope that's the plan. Patterson is a good player. Solid. Better version of Brandon Bass, with more range and versatility. But I think with some work Gordon could be special at 4. At 3, long term, I just honestly don't know.

I love the idea of the super athletic, super versatile 1-4 we'd have with him playing the 4. Patterson can work, because he stretches the D a little with his shooting, but let's not start thinking of him as a Rashard type shooter who makes you fear him outside. You run out on Patterson, you don't really guard him out there.

If Gordon develops as a PF, he can become something almost totally unique in this league. People compare him to Marion, but he's actually tall enough to be a full-time 4 and a better ball handler and passer.

I agree man, he's a little small right now but he's an ideal PF once he hits about 235 lbs which should come pretty easy and pretty quickly

I can understand it just fine. I'm just not willing to accept it as fact until it actually becomes fact. You aren't the final authority on anything.

With Melo (assuming he signs a max contract), Harden, Dwight, and Parsons @10 million, that puts them over 65 million already. I'm not sold that they are willing to have a bench that horrible, especially after watching Miami get smoked in the finals largely because they didn't have a bench. Miami's bench actually looks decent when you compare it to whatever Houston will have to settle for if they land Carmelo and match Parsons. Why risk paying all of that money if in the end your bench is what lets you down? It's a very strong starting lineup, but how does Parsons fit with so few shots coming his way? Nobody even knows how Carmelo and Harden can play together. Beverley and Jones are going to get decent raises very soon, how do they fit that in?

You take the 10 million for Parsons out of the equation and they can now attempt to form a quality bench while still having a very strong lineup. There are legitimate reasons they wouldn't match, it's just not as simple as you are making it seem. There's also the repeater penalty to think about a few years down the road.

I can't wait until this becomes fact so you can finally eat crow.

I think people in this thread are realizing why I put Eskobar on ignore a long time ago. Now if I could only get everyone to stop quoting him.......

How is Patterson defensively? I really don't know much about him other than what I've read in this thread.

He's good. Will give help side defense and quick enough to hang with quicker players for a while. Not stellar and a little undersized but he still will make the effort and probably pick it up from what he's shown so far in the NBA. Think about it, he's never really been on a team with such a heavy emphasis on defense like he could be with orlando.

Just one clip but an impressive one against a fellow PF
