NBA Finals Format Changed

Finals..format change Posted Oct 23, 2013 2:48 PM - Updated Oct 23, 2013 8:02 PMNEW YORK (AP) -- David Stern's NBA owners gathered one last time, toasting the outgoing commissioner before he leaves after 30 years on the job.

They also changed back one of the earliest changes Stern made.

Leaving with Stern is the NBA Finals format he implemented in his first full year on the job, one that alleviated travel concerns but critics felt also gave an advantage to the lower-seeded team.

Beginning with the 2014 finals, the higher-seeded team will host Games 1, 2, 5 and 7. The lower seed gets Games 3, 4 and 6, following the same format the NBA uses in all other rounds

It was too close for the Heat last season. The league can't have another close call like that, giving the Spurs three straight at home. The league office needs the Heat to keep winning titles, cuz, you know, the rest of the NBA likes that kind of thing. Gotta gives those Heat guys a leg up.
