Howard Named to All-Defensive Team

Recommended Posts

In what has almost become an annual rite of spring, Orlando Magic superstar center Dwight Howard was once again honored on Monday as the NBA’s premier defensive player.

Howard, the only player in NBA history to win the Defensive Player of the Year Award three consecutive years, was the NBA’s highest vote-getter for the All-Defensive Team. It was Howard’s third consecutive year on the first-team squad, while he was a second-team choice in 2008.

He received a league-best 27 votes for the first team and two votes for the second-team, giving him 56 points overall. The NBA’s 30 head coaches vote on the award and a coach is not allowed to vote for a player on his team.

Scott Skiles probably threw a vote in Bogut's direction...or not. Guess you can't vote for your guy. That means Stan had to vote for somebody else.

It's pretty funny that Lebron and Kobe keep getting voted in on the defensive 1st teams. Kobe was a good defender, but I don't think he's that elite of a defender anymore. Lebron never was an elite defender. Maybe an above average defender, but not elite.

It's sad when real defenders, like Tony Allen, Deng, and others get passed over because they don't have name recognition. What makes it sadder is that these are coaches voting, not the media like the other awards.
