2011 Playoffs

ZBo is awesome when he tries.

Seeing him play the way he's played this series, would you rather have him or J-Rich?

Say the make believe deal of Z-Bo/Mayo or Young for J-Rich/Bass was done.

I was all for that trade because I still think Mayo could mold into something good and ZBo was an expiring + better than Bass. Dude knows how to use his massive body

Amazing, these Oklahoma City Fakers

Backcourt violation on Durant and Refs give the ball RIGHT back to OKC. Such BS.

It was the right call. What the ref called was a backcourt violation when Durant stepped on the line but you're allowed to step on the line/inbound the ball to the backcourt in that situation. Now, had the ref called it after Durant stepped back, but Durant stepped on the line the second time after the whistle.

Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat

First, why was the Knicks/Celtics match-up hyped so much again? There was absolutely no reason to think that would go more than five games. Knicks fans, I understand that it's their return to the playoffs, but there was no way Carmelo, Amare, and a bunch of no-defense specialists were going to give the Celtics a tough time.

Anyway, on to the match-up. I think the thing everybody should look for is the play of point guards and centers. These are Miami Heat's weakest positions in terms of efficiency, and in order for them to beat the Celtics four out of seven times, they will need great contributions from anybody playing those positions.

The only position I think Miami Heat are guaranteed to win is.. small forward. LeBron's dominated Pierce in the past but that simply won't be enough. You also can't count on Bosh either. He has shrunk against Garnett when he was back in the Atlantic Division. I thoroughly expect Garnett not to be outproduced by him.

And then there's Wade/Allen. Wade's definitely going to score more than Allen, but is he going to be more efficient? Wade's defense on Allen has been the worst I've ever seen out of any superstar that's guarded him. As long as Allen doesn't give a Keith Bogans-esque performance, this match-up is a wash.

So, if you think about it overall, the only positions Miami beat good teams in are shooting guard, small forward, and power forward. Take power forward away, and what do you have? Wade and LeBron getting tons of pressure. Will the bench help relieve the pain? Not a chance.

Doc Rivers has also dominated Erik Spoelstra for years. There just isn't a single conceivable way Miami can win this series to me. They can lead it, but they sure as hell aren't winning it. If Boston can just keep them off the line and own their point guards, Miami isn't going to win because they don't have any half-court offense whatsoever. The hype is finally over for these guys, and I've been calling this since day one.

Celtics in six.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

Fine, fine. The Blazers didn't upset like I said they would and my annual Blazers upset train once again goes off on its tracks. Give Dallas credit, blah blah blah.

I think this series is going to display to me how good Chandler and Haywood really are. Statistically speaking, Dallas hopes to beat teams with Dirk plus major jumpshots from their wings. The only player that gets them consistent paint points game to game that isn't named Dirk Nowitzki is pretty much.. JJ Berea.

If the Mavs want any chance in this series whatsoever, they need some kind of point guard to attack Fisher and Blake and that point guard ain't Kidd. It's going to either be Berea or Beaubois. They cannot hope to win without some paint dominance in this series. What's that? Kidd can post up? How come I've never actually seen this in the last few years he's been in the playoffs? .. Well, whatever.

Speaking of paint dominance, the Lakers are going to dominate it (You think?) because the Mavs are mostly a jumpshooting team. Haywood and Chandler are really only defenders; it's hard to expect them to outproduce Bynum in points and rebounds even combined. The only scoring threat on the frontline Dallas really only has is Dirk, and yeah, that's going to be a match-up problem for the Lakers, but what people like Charles Barkley forget is that Dirk hasn't really been that great of a defensive player himself. I'm not saying Gasol/Odom are going beat him, but Dirk is going to have to guard somebody, and if he doesn't do a good enough job, whatever he scores isn't really going to matter. That puts so much pressure on Chandler that if he gets in any amount of foul trouble whatsoever.. it won't be pretty.

Kobe and Artest are going to own the wings. The only wing player the Mavs have that are capable of guarding the post is Marion, and he can only guard one guy at a time. Kobe and Artest can post on pretty much anybody else. Butler could obviously change things I guess.

Overall, I think if the Mavs hope to give the Lakers at least a scare, Chandler/Haywood are going to have to score major points/shut down Bynum/Gasol, or someone on the perimeter has to either assist in scoring or score themselves (I'm looking the point guards or Marion, mostly).

Lakers over Lol Mavs in six.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

At first, I thought I'd take OKC easily because seeing the Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals is just weird, but I'm going to give this match-up an honest look.

First, I gotta examine the frontline. Z-bo/Gasol vs Ibaka/Perkins/Collison. It'll definitely be more interesting than whatever the Nuggets threw up. It might be a wash.

The perimeter is even more interesting. Conley has managed to outperform Tony Parker.. but can he outperform Westbrook? Who knows. I thought Parker > Westbrook as playoff performers. The wings on both teams are about as talented as the other outside of Durant and maybe Westbrook.

I truly can't say much about this match-up. It seems pretty even across the board save Durant. I guess I would have to give OKC the edge due to them having a better overall defensive line-up.. and more talented players on the wings offensively (by just a hair), but that's pretty much the same reason I took the Spurs. I guess I'll bank on Grizzlies only being relevant if they're a bigger team than you? Definitely the only 50/50 match-up for the round (IN THE HUMAN EYE SENSE NOT THE WHATEVER NUMBERS SENSE).

OKC in seven.

Chicago Bulls vs. Atlanta Hawks

Are you serious? Hawks are going to pull the traditional "lose in a second round sweep". Nothing to see here.

Fine fine.. what can the Hawks do to give themselves a chance? Well, they can't make Rose work like the Pacers did, so that idea is out the window. They go iso so much and that can only favor the famous Celtic defensive coach. I guess they can attack Boozer maybe? I mean, really that's their only shot to me. Chicago's defense is just too hard to get through on pure isos and unlike the Magic, their backcourt is better defensively. Luol Deng > Turkoglu and Rich combined. Hawks have weaker point defenders than the Pacers as well (especially if Hinrich isn't 100%).

Nearly all of those games were down to the wire and the Knicks were without Billups and had a broken Amar'e. Boston did not impress me one bit. That series could've easily gone to 6 games, and not because I think the Knicks are good but because the Celtics just seemed to stroll through it.

Who gives a **** about the Heat, Celtics, and Lakers. Its going to be the Celtics and Lakers, and I really do not care. LOL at Hawks fans that actually think their players are going to allowed to beat up on Rose like they did Dwigth. I hope they get blown out every game.
