BMP Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 I also think that Nelson being far more versatile than Hedo makes it easier for Otis to make moves surrounding Dwight and not so much making moves surrounding Dwight while fitting into Hedo's style. Quote
Captain Hi-Top Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Hell, HE TOOK BRIAN COOK AND MADE HIM A SOMEWHAT SERVICEABLE ROLE PLAYER. Okay, lets not get too carried away here. lol Quote

Hold on, cowboy. Nelson is more versatile than Turk? Nelson is an undersized PG, while Turk can play Point Forward, SF and spot PF when going small (like against IN). IMHO, Turk is our go-to guy because of Nelson's limitations. Quote

Why the heck did we want Chris Paul then? Quote

Hedo has proven to be largely ineffective playing off the ball. Nelson seems to be able to playthe PG role, or play off the ball when it's in Hedo's hands. neither one of them are defensive aces. I think that was his point. Quote
BMP Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Nelson is an undersized PG I heard he's also shoot first and smells funny. . . while Turk can play Point Forward, SF That's the same position, unless you were just trying to be redundant. and spot PF when going small (like against IN). Turk isn't effective at the PF position and really, I'd say Hedo is about as good at defending small PFs as Nelson is defending small 2 guards like Ellis, Ja. Crawford, and other combo guards that don't have much strength IMHO, Turk is our go-to guy because of Nelson's limitations. Turk and Nelson share the ball in crunch time and the biggest reason Hedo is most likely to have the ball to create is because Nelson plays well off the ball and is a good spot up shooter whereas Hedo isn't. As Hi-Top pointed out, Hedo is only effective if he has the ball in his hands. As Hedo has pointed out, "ball". He's not very good playing off the ball. Nelson can do both. Nelson/Hedo works really well because Hedo can have his goddamn ball and Nelson can produce as well as Nelson being able to take over ball handling duties when Hedo's being guarded by good defenders. I gotta disagree about the off the ball comment. This is being said over and over again because of his recent stints in Toronto and Phoenix. I'm not sure what happened in Toronto but in Phoenix they were primarily asking Turk to play the four. On the Magic, he has been fine with or without the ball in both stints here. Moreover, he is a good matchup problem at SF, as discussed in the media by Bryant and Pierce. Quote

I wasn't trying to be redundant. Perhaps I should have said SF+. Turk is one of the best facilitating SFs in the league, while many SFs are never asked to play such a role. I agree that Nelson and Turk work well together. My whole point is I believe DWill or CP would be light years better beside Turk. They can shoot, have far better court vision, are much better at creating their own shots and are far superior defenders. Quote

He's not a cutter or a slasher, he's not a terrific spot up shooter or good defender. . . that's why he's not as versatile as Jameer. Meer has proven he can be effective as the team's primary play maker and 2nd/3rd scorer (ECF appearance against a much better Boston team ain't too bad), and shown to be able to mix it up like he has now and did in 2008 (his all-star year). Hedo looks too much like Wince without the ball. He just sits in the corner and doesn't provide much off the ball. As far as what you keep saying about replacing Nelson with the best PGs in the league, it's ridiculous. . . if the Magic were to replace Hedo with LeBron the Magic would be the favorites to win the title for the next 4-5 years. I wouldn't be confident saying the same if the Magic had CP3/DWill instead. these hypotheticals are so damn pointless though Quote

Your loyalty towards Jameer is starting to cloud my appreciation of your knowledge of the game. Quote
Soul Bro Posted January 29, 2011 Author Report Posted January 29, 2011 Let's assume for a second that our weakest position is point guard. Would Magic become a better team if we trade for a better PG like D.Williams? I doubt that. Such a trade would change the way we play a lot. I think this team we have now will get better in time, esp. at the defensive end. Without going further, BMP, I'm not sure you read this whole thread. The whole reason DWill and CP were brought up was b/c of this quote. 1 Quote
