Yeah....good marks because both players were perceived as worthy of going higher.

 

Should be interesting to see what happens to them come October. Would be weird to see both of them in the D-League.

No. 29 Daniel Orton

No. 59 Stanley Robinson

 

Orlando had a simple draft: two low picks, two very good values. Orton was never worthy of the lottery hype some analysts gave him, but at 29th overall, the Magic can afford the risk and potentially reap the reward. Robinson was easily the best player available at No. 59. It's refreshing to see a team not overthink anything and just make solid choices.

ORLANDO MAGIC GRADE: B-

 

Round 1: Daniel Orton (29)

Round 2: Stanley Robinson (59)

 

Analysis: The Magic had a good draft, potentially striking gold at No. 29 and No. 59 in the draft. But Orlando has a lot of work ahead, because while both Orton and Robinson have the raw tools to succeed, but they're far from being ready to really contribute.

 

Orton is a physical defender in the paint who dropped on draft boards because of concerns about his knees. Robinson is one of the best athletes in the draft, but his skill set is still a work in progress. I expect them both to have at least a full year in the D League before we hear from them again.

I stopped paying attention to draft grades when the Denver Broncos got a B- for their last draft.

Could be trade chips or could be insurance (and a cheaper alternative) to keeping Gortat. After all, the Celtics and Lakers proved you don't have to have a strong, deep bench to win.

Neither Orton or Robinson will play a significant role for us this year. Maybe they can be good role players down the line....but I don't know about an A grade.

Where is Orton going to get his playing time? Over Gortat? Over Anderson or Bass? He's gonna be racking up DNP-CDs big time unless Otis makes a trade.

 

As far as Robinson goes, I like him for the 59th pick...but he's not a guy ready to contribute right away and SVG isn't going to give a rookie like that playing time.

So by your standards both players have to come in and get 20 mpg in order to get a good grade?

 

We picked second to last in each round. We got two lottery picks (or fringe lottery picks).

 

That's an automatic A.
