7 Games in, who's your 5th starter now?

I'm concerned about him playing small forward as well. but alot of samll forwards are bigger and play on the inside more. We'd have to see how it goes. If he can at least out score the opposing small forward then he should play there with Anderson starting; if not let him play with Barnes. Barnes can cover up the rebounding issues we have with Rashard.

Pietrus at starting SF:

The Anderson/Lewis combo definitely has the biggest upside giving us size, rebounding and devastating 4/1 offense...but Rashard's D at the 3 is a big concern (he's 3 years older than when he was in Seattle). Between Vince, Lewis and Anderson, who guards Lebron/Pierce and the other quality SF's out of those 3? Sounds like a pretty sketchy defense - tall but soft...Until Rashard proves otherwise, at this point Pietrus knows the system better than Barnes and is as good if not better defender/3 pt shooter. Plus he seems to be at his best when he is fifth option/def specialist not the 1,2,or 3d option which is what happens when he's with the 2nd unit - he spends his energy on scoring and not defense which is his talent. After 20-30 more games Barnes' upside with his rebounding, passing, ball handling ability could be good enough to take starting job from MP but until he acclimates himself Barnes so far just makes way too many momentum changing - cringe inducing mistakes on Offense and Defense.

BARNES. RA relies too much on his shot to contribute and is a much needed offensive spark off the bench. Bass would be good, is Shard wasn't adjusted to playing the 4. Pietrus is better off being a sixth man, a role in which he thrived in last year during the playoffs.

Barnes is my pick. I like his game. He hustles on both ends of the court. Good rebounder and ok defender. He should start at the 3 and Pietrus come off the bench. Barnes has made me a believer in his game. So the starters should be come the 11th game Lewis comes back:

Nelson, Carter, Barnes, Lewis, Howard. I don't care how and who SVG plays off the bench as long as the core guys Nelson,Carter,Lewis and Howard play the most minutes.

Out of all the realistic options, Matt Barnes is the only one of those players who isn't looking for his shot on every catch.

+1

I'd add, Pietrus is a close #2 imo. He doesn't seem to chuck as much when he starts. Last year I suggested Pietrus follow a 3-4 minute rule on putting up a shot when he enters the game. I'd like to re-submit that suggestion.

LOL.

I agree with Barnes being the pick. And, right now, SVG is going to make a point of rewarding those that work the hardest at the defensive end. And, right now, Barnes is the only one on the roster truly doing that. The ONLY one.

Anderson would actually be my 2nd choice. Everyone says that moves Shard to 3, but I don't necessarily see it that way. The skills of the opposing 3 and 4 are going to be a factor in match-ups, so it doesn't really matter which one wears the label, but it will be predicated more on defense assignment than offensive scheme.

I like MP, but I still don't feel like he can be trusted very often to play more than 15-20 minutes of intelligent basketball on a given night.

Over these ten games I feel like Anderson's vindicated me. He is what I thought he is. Very good shooter, better-than-people-think driver to the basket, FAR better-than-people-think rebounder... and slow-footed, not strong enough in individual defense. He needs to be coached up Rashard style in that regard.

But Barnes seems even better to me here than in Phoenix, which I didn't really suspect.. and he was darn solid enough in the desert.

So I say Barnes needs to be the fifth starter, HOWEVER, Rashard needs time at SF and needs it quickly, because despite his early success I still say we need Ryan Anderson in the rotation before J.J. Redick... sorry, I just do.

Then again Redick seems to have SVG's trust, so we might just stupidly sit Anderson, just because. Or, perhaps, Bass or Anderson play depending on who the Magic are facing. Who knows.

Bottom line I think Barnes should start, at least at first when Shard gets back, but SVG needs to find a way to get Ryan Anderson minutes. When his game is on, he can turn a game around or build a lead, and so far it's happening frequently.

Voted for Barnes, i think his all round game with hustle and defense will help our 4 all stars more than Ryan Anderson's offensive firepower.

that being said i think Stan is gonna have a hard time finding minutes (barring blowout situations) for all of our guys.. i mean we are rolling with 6 legitimate role players off the bench (2 power forwards even). if this were the association mode in nba 2k i would go;

Nelson 36

Carter 36

Barnes 28, maybe less

Lewis 36

Howard 38

bench: 66 mins remain

Pietrus 14

Williams 12

Gortat 10

Anderson 12

Bass 12 (lewis slides to sf sometimes)

Redick 6

above makes it obvious that running an 11-man rotation is nuts. blowouts/foul trouble do change it anyway.

anyway whatever SVG decides is best for the team, i'll be fine with: he is the head coach, after all.
