Need a camcorder, suggestions?

I've been looking for one for Christmas. I don't need anything too fancy, but I don't want a piece of junk I'm going to regret buying a few months from now.

 

It will be mostly used for family gatherings, events we attend, etc. I'm not going indie filmmaker just yet lol.

 

I've looking at a few already on Bestbuy.com, and then compared the prices around and read reviews on cnet.

 

Here's one that has caught my eye the most.

I'm looking to spend anywhere from 200 bucks to 500 bucks the most.

A friend of mine has a Panasonic VDR D50 Camcorder. We've used it numerous times and it's a solid camera, and a bargain if you ask me. For it's price, it has surprisingly sharp image quality and it's small and portable as well.
