Can it be Thursday evening already? This speculation is getting old fast. :beatcomp:

    Official 2015 Draft Thread

Here's what's most exciting to me about this draft: Most drafts you can get a sense of where the top 5-10 will fall. We know the top 2 (maybe 3). After that, it is literally a Wild Wild West. I have no idea who will be there and who we will draft, and nor does any other team. Last year, there was a unanimous top 4 (while we screwed that up with Aaron Gordon), but the draft generally went as predicted in the top 10. This year: no one knows. It's going to be exciting.

Considering ESPN has become more akin to TMZ, blatant lies don't surprise me anymore.

Let's be honest guys: this is a rumor, and it doesn't sound like it has legs based on what we know. I'm more apt to believe that the Magic were about to make the Vince Carter / Jameer Nelson deal for Chris Paul back in 2010 than I am to believe we are anywhere near making this deal, at least under the terms currently being put out there by the media.

Last year, not a single mock-draft had us taking Aaron Gordon at #4. I'm hoping for any of the typical draft potentials that have been discussed, but I wouldn't even blink if we ended up choosing Stanley Johnson, who is a consensus 7-10 pick. You can't trust anything that is being leaked to the media these days.

    Welcome Home Coach Scott Skiles!

It's the End of Tuesday. He was supposed to tell by Monday... This is a slow week for everyone.

Sorry - was identifying why JAMEER would want to come back. Fuzzy feelings are clearly not what Magic care for, but there is a certain sense of family in the magic organization which we all know and acknowledge. Reasons the Magic would want Jameer: 1. "Family unity" 2. Locker room presence to mentor the young players more. 3. Still a very capable scorer, even at his age --> Instant offense off the bench 4. Would come at a very good price for an expectation of limited minutes vs. a premium back-up, whom would always be looking for a shot at a starting job anyway. To push back on your points: 1. "Not being able to play D" - sure, he's not a one-on-one defender, but he's intelligent. Considering Scott Skiles got guys with far less desire and intelligence to be part of a top 10 defense, I think we'll be fine. 2. Stalling the offense and not pushing up tempo - systems dictate how the ball is pushed and how much movement there is. With Van Gundy, the plays were "Pass it to Dwight and if they collapose, pass it out and shoot the 3." With Vaughn, it was "Walk with up the floor and isolate" until Payton got pissed and started pushing it. I disagree that Jameer isn't worth using as a backup. However, I guess we'll see what the two parties (Jameer / Magic) think about it this offseason... I'm just calling I see it happening very distinctly...

Something I've thought of too. While I would think his floor would be Dwayne Dedmon, he moves better laterally than Dedmon does and has a naturally bigger frame. Mudiay, WCS, Mario, or Winslow - any of them would be gold for this budding core.

    Mario Hezonja ?

I love Mario's upside, mostly due to his shooting and size. However, if he truly has an attitude problem, do you see us taking a chance on that with the type of players we've picked over the past 3 years and the locker room culture of dedication and hard work we're trying to create?

I'd like him, but we have a future All-Star PG. If he's available in the 2nd round, I would be happy to take a chance on him, but I think it's created too much intrigue to not attract a team in the late first round.

I think the point is that whether it's Winslow, WCS, Mudiay, or Hezonja, I'll be satisfied with our pick. We have a lock of good talent to choose from in the 2nd tier. Just not Kristaps Porzingis. Anyone but Porzingis.

Jameer can run? And as of last season, he was the starting PG for Dallas, who was a solid contender before Rajon "The Team Cancer" Rondo was traded for Meer. I think being traded & moving 3 times was difficult for him and his family. I'm telling you (because I'm calling it), we WILL sign Jameer Nelson this offseason so that A) He has a place that we know will not trade him mid-season. B) He can be with his family in the city they've grown up in. C) He can have signficiant back-up minutes on an Eastern Conference contender (because I have confidence we truly make the jump this year). Mark my words.

Speights is from St. Petersberg and went to UF. Would be a nice "coming home" story should we look to sign him. Additionally, it would be a great rotation with him, Vuc, and AG / Rookie Big.

And yet we all know that Henny won't give a crud about that and will take someone none of us see coming. Bracing myself.

    Welcome Home Coach Scott Skiles!

Very true. What about Grant Hill? Same concept. If I had a guess, I would assume that both of them want to explore A) More time with family (both are very family oriented) B) Explore more of life than just basketball (entrepreneurial spirit)

I'm with HeHateMe on this one. Just don't believe the guy can grow on the offensive end and therefore has a very limited upside. Ceilings are much higher on other players at #5.

We've been in the high lottery each of the past 3 seasons and had a focus on developing the experience and skills of our young core. You don't spend max money on a big name or two (or 2nd tier guys whom you have to pay max money to) if you your primary goal is to acquire and develop young talent. This summer, he might spend. But in the end, it's a slow growth approach. To try and accelerate a process like this lands you in the 5th-8th seed for a decade.

Are there any updates out there about player workouts and such? It's 20 days until the draft and I would figure we would hear much more about player work out rumors and such.

I would absolutely love Jameer back. Truthfully, he should have never left. We'll look to go for cheap to someone else, but honestly, being a cheap, good player means that you can be traded more easily - which is what happened in Dallas. I can 100% see Jameer coming back if a true contender does not emerge that wants to have him. We would welcome him with open arms and it would be a feel-good story for the season. Also - does anyone think jameer will eventually go into coaching? With his leadership abilities, I could even see him coming onto Skiles staff in 2-3 years.

Draymond Green is getting paid by someone. His intensity level fits the magic PERFECTLY in my mind. Would not surprise me at all if we gave him a rather large contract offer. Described as the "heart and soul" of the Warriors, he plays with tenacity and passion with every second he is on the court. I feel we won't leave, but the warriors may not be able to afford it.

WCS is known for his lack of effort during some periods of time on the court. That hasn't been the case for ANY of our players drafted in the last 2-3 years. They may not be as skilled, but you never questioned their concentration or work-ethic on the floor. For this reason alone, I am 99.9% sure we will not draft WCS.

On the topic of Bogut, I wonder how much Vuc's defense steps up under Skiles. Vuc has tools to do well on defense. Rim protection, in my mind, is having a good rotational system and an athletic big man. WCS is that... but so is Dwayne Dedmon, and with more discipline, I think Dedmon could turn into that rim protector we need. WCS has only done well offensively because of his size, which he won't have as much of an advantage of in the NBA. On the other hand, having an big athlete who can shoot the lights out is much - much - tougher to find in the NBA. You teach Mario (like Rashard Lewis) to play good TEAM defense, and that's all you need.

I think Moe has to be a better overall decision maker. I think his ceiling is clearly Trevor Ariza, but Moe still looks lost when dribbling and when he gets into a jam, he looks like a deer in the headlights; not to mention he still doesn't have a consistent 3-pt. jumper. I will say this though: Scott Skiles is known to get a lot out of his players. If Moe is willing to work hard and be a student of the game, I think he has a role in Skiles' rotation.
