Barnes and Green have struggled this opening night too. Didn't expect Mobley to rack up so many assists already. He had a good one.

while this is true, they are very much on par at full strength with Murray / White / Walker / Vassell. Spurs have the edge in experience and continuity, and until we are both full strength, talent.

Is Bamba getting murdered on the boards or is it our style of play? Wish I were watching! (Damn my employment >.> )

    2021-2022 General Game Thread

It hasn't been understandable every year, but examples like a couple of extra games under Vogel when we could have had a shot at sure fire prospects like Luka and Trae were highly aggravating. Dallas has lots of problems, but as a fan they're problems I'd like to have. Editing to add: for me it's when the prospect of getting a game changer is staring you right in the face while at the same time what we were watching was clearly never going anywhere. For this year: I'm hoping someone breaks out. If noone steps up and we don't have a franchise leader I would hope this FO will not try to build around what amounts to bit players again.

    2021-2022 Orlando Magic Season Thread… Let’s Goo!!!

How strange... I am REALLY cheap and do not have a subscription either. But yes Chuma is one of the 5, along with Darius Garland, OG Anunoby, Robert Williams III, Talen Horton-Tucker - I think Zach just likes interesting names sometimes. Okeke sat out what would have been his rookie season recovering from knee surgery. He spent time with the Magic's G League team, leaving him a somewhat shy mystery. "He barely talked to anyone that year," says Evan Fournier, now with the New York Knicks. Fournier's trade to the Boston Celtics was one of three deadline moves that signaled a new teardown -- the rebuild of the rebuild in Orlando's endless post-Dwight Howard nightmare -- transforming Okeke in a blink from unknown kiddo to one of Orlando's longest-tenured players. "It's weird everyone is gone," Okeke says. "But next man up." Orlando is well-stocked with guards and bigs -- especially once Jonathan Isaac reclaims his starting power forward spot. Okeke and Franz Wagner loom as the essential bridge between those groups -- the extra-large, 3-and-D wing who can do a little of everything on offense and switch across all five positions on defense. Okeke spent most of last season at power forward, which made things easier for him on offense. Toggling to the wing shouldn't impact him on defense, but he'll have to navigate tighter confines on the other end. Okeke spends a lot of time spotting up -- in the corners and along the wing. He hit 35% from deep on decent volume -- encouraging, even if defenders ignored him to clog the paint. Down the stretch, he dared to hoist against strong contests and dabbled in off-the-bounce 3s -- though he hit just 4-of-26 on those. The Magic are confident Okeke's shot will come. That could empower his catch-and-go driving game, since defenders would close out harder -- easy prey for dustings. Okeke is not a blow-away athlete. He does not have a killer first step. Optimists see Okeke as Orlando's Mikal Bridges on defense, but he has not yet shown the same nimble feet and preternatural instincts. But Okeke is a smart, well-rounded player with feel. If he knifes into the lane, he makes the right play. Okeke lets some driving opportunities slip away by pausing on the catch -- allowing the defense to reset. "I need to make quicker decisions," he says.

Been a bit since CT posted here, hope he's okay given how well Giddey seems to be acclimating to the NBA game. Have to be happy for the local kid

Rookies definitely had some rookie nights. Also, I've been looking at box scores for nearly 3/4 of my life now and it just seems like the rotations for preseason are the longest they've ever been. Without any semblance of the regular rotation looking at preseason box scores for me has never felt more depressing or pointless. Unfortunately I am at work during most games and can't watch. Hooray.

I don't know if this is me misremembering things but before Davis Bertans picked up a head of steam and started gunning for his new contract, I remember it looking like Mo was gonna be that guy for Washington. Glad we could have him instead. Nice to have someone who can actually play like that from the 4

It probably wouldn't be such a problem if the people who are anti-vaccination weren't spreading misinformation and fear everywhere they go like they think they're literally "on a mission from God" .... they are louder and more persistent than everyone else. It's rubbing off on too great a number of the general population. Honestly don't know how they have the energy to keep up with so much rubbish, but it certainly is hard to counter it with reason to keep enough people safe. We should all mostly be worried for those who can't fight for themselves. The elderly and frail, and the gravely ill who can't even decide to be vaccinated. I think KAT would have some choice words for JI, and rightly so at this point.

There is no alternative that I'm suggesting, I just don't think any one franchise uses any one specific means to the nth degree aside what Sam Hinkie did on the tanking end and the Lakers being the Lakers on the other (and noone else has the option to do that really do they) . We tanked away one year but I don't think that's the entirety of it and isn't worth the offense it causes. Having said that I didn't think through what I said on the Southeast as much as I'd have liked (sorry). I think I missed how short a time it's actually been since the last time the Hawks were competitive. I actually would be reasonably satisfied with how Atlanta turned that 60 win team from a few years back into what they have right now if I were a fan. I'm probably blinded a little by jealousy actually. Charlotte and Washington on the other hand I remain the same on. I think they've committed too much in the past and now on things that aren't going to compete much long term.

See this is where I'm stuck on team building. I don't want to suck the guts out of the organisation in the quest to find a franchise player but looking at Hootie's layout of the Southeast it is painfully obvious that while none of these other teams suck now, and their current squads came about as a result of trying to remain competitive despite lacking elite talent... all of them except Miami have had extended periods of being terrible or just long term mediocre beforehand. And even now, none of them have a top 5 - 10 guy and probably won't.

This sort of thing is exactly what I am looking forward to not seeing happen again. I don't think it will either- just while I don't blindly believe in the Weltman/Hammond regime, I think they have made the best of the situation they realistically could. I think this year will be fun for us as fans, the team and the organisation too. I think most of our youngsters are absolutely keepers. It's good to not be so fully invested in Bamba anymore and him and Hampton are the two I think are most at risk of falling off the perch. Although I irrationally love Cole, he will probably end up being the one who doesn't make it knowing my luck when I like something. Here's to hoping Jalen Suggs will be our next top-20 player

No but that is what I meant as well. The last core would have still have bouts of being blown out in multiple games and we know for a fact nothing really changed despite being able to see that it was an unsustainable core group. I am attached to our players but if we don't have someone worth building around I hope change comes and management remains focused on finding "the man" that every good team needs. It would be fantastic if that is Suggs. It would be even more fantastic if a couple of our youngsters become very quickly more valuable like the complimentary pieces in Toronto, Phoenix etc. We would all love a quick upward trajectory.

I just meant that for all the fiery arguments that used to happen in this place years ago, it was always hilarious when a conversation devolved into Jareth-related surrealism. Really was hard to tell how much serious basketball discussion was going on from the outside. Certainly better than some places for all the weird stuff though. Either way, I don't think a couple of devastating blowouts are going to deter any of us. I just hope this time the plan is to remain fluid until it is clear we have something/someone worth building around. It'd be great if we have already found "it" but will not be wholly disappointed if we haven't as long as we don't take the youth of this team and let us sail into another decade of cannon fodder. ... Fingers crossed!

Pretty big assumption by whomever this is to state that they only realised at the deadline that they should blow it up. These people seem to not realise sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to do because your employer mandates it (I.e 2 playoff births). if they couldn’t see it wasn’t going to get any better they never should have had the job in the first place.

Surely if we plan on keeping him - one of Harris or Ross is on the move before the start of the season, right?
