Sure they are. That 2009 run to the Finals was magical (no pun intended) and one of the best times of my life as a sports fan.

You're certainly welcome to your opinion. I loved that finals run too, but it doesn't make up for what happened after. Not to me, anyway. Dwight didn't just leave. Cavs fans know what it's like to have a player rip their hearts out (relatively speaking in sports-fandom terms, anyway). But at least LeBron's DECISION was a one-off for them. Dwight played with our sports hearts for 3 years before finally stomping on them and spitting on them. It being the organization that frustrated him more than the city didn't help. Orlando fired a good coach because he didn't like the guy. Dwight did everything he could to gut this team before he left. If Rob weren't such a *****ing ninja, getting Vuc and Hark and Harris through trades, we'd all be in basketball hell right now.

So no, for me, it wasn't worth it.

  2. I'll bet anything that AG & Co E become consistent shooters and at least a 70%FT shooters. These guys don't have it now, but they have the work ethic to get there, as does Oladipo, Harris, and Nicholson. You already see what Harkless has done in just 1 offseason.

You can teach shooting, but you can't teach the hustle, passion, work ethic, and love for the game they have.

For what its worth, Harkless still can't shoot FT. It's actually way easier, or so it seems, to vastly improve 3-pt% than FT%. I cannot for the life of me understand why.

Also, when we talked on the phone after the Magic picks I kept asking you who is gonna score for this team ???....I mean, the defense is gonna have to be spectacular or we might not win a game....I'm still waiting for your response about scoring because you didn't answer me then either, lol.

Oladipo and Harris both project to score pretty well next year. Dipo is a second-year kid with talent and a relentless work ethic to make himself better, and his per-36 numbers were solid year-one. Harris' trajectory has shown that he improves every year. If he develops even a 30% outside shot, he's close to a 20-a-night scorer with decent minutes. Vucevic is a solid interior scorer, comparable to Marc Gasol (not as good a passer, but a MUCH better ORBer). In my opinion, this team already has as much or more scoring than Memphis.

  4. We're talking about 15+ years of experience, several of which saw Duncan as a top player in the league. The only real starless team to win a ring in recent memory was Detroit. Teams like the Celtics and Spurs have won with aging stars who have enough brains and skills to overcome their loss of athletic ability. We won't be a team to have that kind of position for a long, long, long time. Our #1 focus should remain finding a centerpiece player who will play his prime years here.

I think this team reminds me a lot more of 2011 or so Indiana Pacers. We don't have the veterans they did/do (yet, I'm still expecting a signing of some kind this summer that would compare to West for Indiana), but we have a similar makeup of defensive-minded guys who want to win games TOGETHER. If that's the kind of team we end up being, I'll be happy. I don't think we need a CENTERPIECE so much as a CENTRAL IDENTITY. I see that happening soon.

  5. Well some of us form our opinions on more than just the gospel of Kevin Pelton.

"If thou drafteth for defense and intelligence,

    athleticism and unselfishness,

thy scoring shall be like the desert.

Dry and barren, thy players shall never improve,

and thy wins shall be scarce like the refreshing waters.

So sayeth the Lord of Assumptions!"

  6. This might be the wrong place for this, but I thought it was relevant.

I was looking at some of Dwyane (what kinda spelling is that? we gotta stop letting women all doped up on pain killers set up these kids' birth certificates before they're right again!) Wade's stats his rookie year. All of the advanced stats (discounting win shares, of course, seeing as Wade was on a borderline playoff team) are freakishly similar to Oladipo's, except that Dipo showed some ability to hit three's with a modicum of regularity. I think maybe Rob went for great role players in this draft because he feels he already has his star. Dipo's numbers project really well for a rookie. I'm excited to see how far he'll progress next year in his natural position without competition for minutes. Like, really optimistic!

  7. Just watched the presser I was surprised one question didn't get asked.

Elfrid after you were originally drafted by Philly ESPN had a short interview with MCW, he seemed really chapped. What did he say to you when you came off the stage?

MCW: I'm the reigning ROY, son. You better respect that.

Easy E (shyly bobbing his head): I got picked a spot earlier than you did in a much better draft, from ULL when you went to Syracuse. I don't have to respect ****. I just hope you can play the 2. (sits down and doesn't give Michael Carter Williams another thought)

  8. Payton is going to end up being best PG from this draft. Guy can penetrate at will and is a great passer. 15 and 8 his rookie year if JV actually starts him from day one, like he should. I've had a man crush on Payton, so I'll try to just leave it alone and not irritate people with it :)/>

I hope you're right, but I think your man crush is showing too much. 15-8 would be his ceiling in my opinion.

  9. I've gotten over it and hoping for the best from our picks. I must admit Rob has stayed true to his word and pick good character players.

Also people keep talking about a watered down clippers side, I actually think currently our side resembles a (very) watered down version of the bad boy ('89?) pistons team. All the players remind me in some way of their positioned players on that squad.

In what way does Elfrid Payton remind you of Isaiah Thomas? Turnover-prone? I got nothing else. And who's James Edwards for the current Orlando team? We have no such impressive mustache here.

  10. Does anyone think Exum is a little disappointed he went to Utah out of all places? Not to mention he needs to find a way to coexist with Burke.

I don't think Exum and Burke are that bad a fit together. Burke can play off the ball a bit. Exum was never a pure point guard that I heard. They'll share duties.

  11. Gordon has kind of an "aw shucks, I'm gonna dunk on your head next time" demeanor to him which I really like. He seems very confident, but also like a nice kid too.

I agree with you there. Definitely seems like one of the nicer guys in the draft. At least he didn't drop his head and curse when we drafted him, anyway.

  12. Poor performances against elite teams?? yes the Louisville game he struggled but other than that. I think you may be worried because he is more unknown that Lillard and therefore makes it seem more risky of a pick .

Georgia State is ELITE? I gotta tell my friend who went there about that. He'll get a kick out of it. And that Baylor game is not very good. 6-19 is ugly.

  13. Payton is this year Lillard, small school not many people have seen him play and what we do see its just highlights. However the kid seems to be pretty level headed. He got the the FT line 302 times, so we know he likes to attack. The kid put in over 200+ more minutes than anyone on his team at ULL and seemed to be just fine with getting what he can and dishing it when needed. I wouldn't say he is a pass first but when he drives to the rim he definitely looks to dish it and if nothing like I said he can get to the FT Line/finish.. something that I think Oladipo struggles at.

In due time we will figure it out but I think we got a great kid here and hope he along with the team can bring us back to the glory years in the playoffs.

getting to the FT line doesn't help much when you shoot 60% from there. There's a reason Rondo doesn't often score much. He can get into the lane at will, too, but teams just foul him unless it's one of those odd days where's he's not missing every time at the line.
