  2. Smarts's new scouting video came out this last week, so I wanted to hear the thoughts of the board; solely on him as top runner prospect (seemingly) for O Town. Based on the draft thread, he seems high on every ones list. So what do you think of Marcus Smart?

Is Marcus Smart the Most Exciting Player in College Hoops?

Here is a nice article comparing Smart:

Marcus Smart compares to Dwyane Wade, James Harden, Tyreke Evans

Using the incredibly awesome Play Index over at College Basketball Reference, I ran a report to find out how many freshmen have achieved this stat line or better since 1999, the earliest season available in the Play Index:

    14 points/game (Smart averages 15.0)

    5 rebounds/game (Smart averages 5.8)

    3 assists/game (Smart averages 4.5)

    2 steals/game (Smart averages 2.9)

You have to achieve all of those things in your freshman year to be on this list. Guess how many guys have done that in the last 15 seasons of college basketball? Five. You may have heard of these guys: Dwyane Wade, James Harden, Tyreke Evans, and Caron Butler

  3. Looks like Bledsoe would bring a better return than JJ

    Quote:

"It occurs to me that some of those names are probably easy enough to dismiss straight off the cuff -- Millsap for one just doesn't make sense because the Clippers would be trading one positional redundancy (Chris Paul and Bledsoe) for another (Blake Griffin and Millsap) and they don't want to have to pay Millsap starter money to be a backup when he's a free agent this summer any more than they want to do that for Bledsoe the following summer."

  4. Draft night is the only night where every single rookie gets severely overrated. No team will accept Vucevic for Noel.

I think a team would do that trade, but I would not trade him. You dont trade a 7'0 22 year old big like nick, on a rookie contract, for a project big that may work out on def. Nick is in the top 5 in double doubles and already one of the best rebounders in the middle. He has a nice touch around the basket, good hands to catch and range on his shot. So he is a building block; especially in a league were big men are hard to get and grossly over paid.

I think jj can play 6 more years, because of his skill set and the fact that his game does not involve athleticism. So if we sign him, it would not be the end of the world. though, I do believe we should make a trade with him, for a talent like bledseo or a pick.

  5. Jennings is 23. I think that gets overlooked a lot.

Bledsoe? Jesus. Maybe if they take Afflalo instead of Redick but otherwise, no. Bledsoe is at best a Jamal Crawford, and that's if he ever learns to shoot.

Are you serious? They could not be more different. Bledsoe is a lot better defender. He will be in the top 1-3 in steals when given the mins. He is also one of the most explosive and exciting young players in the league. He is a stat stuffer; more effiecient, better rebounder, gets blocks, and a better passer than Crawford. When he wins the slam dunk contest, it will open the eyes of people on the east coast. BTW, He shoots 43% from 3 and 45% from the field.

Smart and Bledsoe would be nasty on Defense, but if we got him I would feel better about McLemore, Bennett, and Shabazz.

Bledseo's problem is CP3 and Billups in front of him.

  6. Jennings wants a bigger market... That should be enough to avoid him at all costs. I think we are 0-2 when it comes to players leaving for "Bigger Markets".

But I guess we should just sit back and watch the NBA trade storm brew into a hurricane. We have plenty of needs and people who dont fit. I would shocked if we didnt do anything....

I am not high on jennings.

  7. I guess Vucevic is the answer... and that acquiring talent and cap space is just not what we want to do. We can hope for a good pick in the draft and keep Hedo here for pizza parties. It's not like Ellis will land us anything better than Hedo.

    ...but Sanders is a beast.

out of the players least likely to be moved on our team, it is nick.

  8. 1 - Campaign for us to get the #1 pick in the draft? Sorry for the sarcasm, but the chance of us getting Noel is very slim.

2 - Sanders has 13 double doubles on the season, has a triple double (with blocks), and leads the league in blocks.

Vuc can improve defensively, but he won't be more of a threat than Sanders. Shot blocking and help D are in Sanders' blood. Vuc for Sanders is a toss up, but I think that the complete trade will land us more than what we have now. Ellis is a nice trade piece for next year, especially with a big expiring contract. Who knows if we'll re-sign JJ? and we move Hedo Turkashoe. Oh, and we get cap space from Udrih for spending on free agents.

Vuc has shown flashes of being a very good low post player and is already a top rebounder. So his offensive game as a big off set some of his lack on defense.

  9. Jimmy Butler, Rip Hamilton and the Bobcats 1st rounder?

Can't see what Indiana would be able to give but it could include Granger going to a 3rd team, giving us at least 2 first rounders?

It was said to be a three team trade with the suns.

    Phoenix gets: Roy Hibbert

Indiana gets: JJ Redick and M. Gortat

Orlando gets: Lance Stephenson and one 1st from each team.

  10. On the surface, I agree. However, I believe the three attributes I listed of JJ actually help the young guys to develop. His leadership sets the culture, his passing sets them up for good shots, and his shooting spaces the floor and draws attention. I'd happy to trade him for a good piece, or I'd be happy to re-sign him. He's the only vet about which I feel that way.

I agree. If we do trade him, it better be for a good talent like bledseo
