But in order to be considered one of the best, he's got a fair bit of competition (Kareem, Wilt, Shaq etc). As of yet, I think Dwight is still too inconsistent to be considered one of the best ever, as shown by his two recent performances. His potential is limitless, we'll just see how he develops as Magic fans. You do realize that Dwight was in foul trouble the last two games
  2. quote: Last week Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, commonly known as Superman after he wowed the All-Star crowd in New Orleans with his high-flying slam dunk routine, recorded his first career triple-double. Playing against the front court challenged Oklahoma City Thunder, Howard thundered down 30 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 blocks in a 109-92 Magic win. After the game Thunder head coach PJ Carlesimo couldn't help himself. The man who was an assistant under Gregg Popovich watching Tim Duncan win championships called Howard the best big man in the NBA, one of the best players on the planet, and even suggested that he might be the best big man ever. "That's high praise, but he certainly has the ability to be one of the best ever," Magic coach Stan Van Gundy told HOOPSWORLD. "That's a goal that he's working toward and we've told him since we walked in on day one that the standard we want to hold him to is to be the best player in the league. That's obviously a very high standard and we can always find things wrong to make him get better, but Dwight's attitude, particularly this year, has been that he wants to get better and wants to reach that level and wants to be pushed on the things that he's not doing well. He's off to a great start. I'm sure there will be challenges ahead, people will play him a lot of different ways, but he's maturing and he has more poise this season." "I guess you could say he's actually Superman out there," adds Rashard Lewis, who grew up in Houston idolizing Hakeem Olajuwon. "He gave a tremendous effort out on the defensive end that game. He was crawling up the paint getting blocks. I think he had seventy or eighty percent of the blocked shots before half time. Obviously, rebounding the ball well and scoring with the ball well, there was nothing out there that he didn't do. He literally carried us to that win. That's why we had such a big lead early; they just couldn't get any points in the paint. They aren't a very good jump shooting team and they couldn't get a layup because Dwight was there to contest their shot." http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=10648

How's that for D?? You know how you can tell JJ's defense sucks? Someone travels on one play while he's guarding them, and people try to act like it means something. But yet we'd never hear the end of it if Kapono had made that shot in his eye. So with your logic, does that make Bogans a bad defender if I have to get all happy when someone doesn't shoot a critical 4th quarter shot over the top of him? Because I've found myself doing that lately. No, by my logic making a big deal out of one play for any reason is ridiculous. And "by my logic" I mean "by common sense". That may be the stupidest thing I've heard of all year. So it would be ridiculous to make a big deal out of Rashard Lewis' game-winning shot over Detroit? I'll be sure to sit on my hands next time. Just shut up and let fans be fans. I don't yell at you for being negative about everything so don't yell at me about being happy for something. Skywise don't even feed into it, that guy just wants attention.

Off Topic Question: 2010 Free Agent Class

quote: Originally posted by Drunk on Mystery: quote: Originally posted by truth393:Amare Stoudemire might be the one to sign with another team in 2010. I'd say that several players from that class are going to move around: Dirk is clearly gone by then at the latest, Richard Jefferson is gone, Houston may go full rebuild mode if they haven't won a title by then and let go of TMac and Yao, Amare may go, aging Ginobli may go...it'll be a weird FA period, that's for sure. I meant out of the top tier free agent. Jefferson and the rest of them guys you listed will be 2nd tier free agent in 2010.

Off Topic Question: 2010 Free Agent Class

quote: Originally posted by echo4papa:Sure, if Cleveland new LeBron was out the door, why not trade him? Ask yourself this though, would you give up anything decent for a half season rental of LeBron? I think the only way I would make that trade was if I had a **** good idea that he was going to stick around after the season ended. Now, to know that, you would have to know LeBron wanted to come to your team regardless, right? Take NJ for instance. Lets say they know LeBron is going to sign with them in 2010. If they know this, why give up anything decent to get him a little early? I see LeBron staying in Cleveland until his contract is up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't they be able to sign him for more money than any other team? Once his contract is up, he decides where he wants to go, Cleveland gives him up in a sign and trade for a max contract. Now, if LeBron were really savvy, and wanted to work towards his legend status, he would sign with whatever team he chooses, for a modest contract, and not tie their hands for future moves. It's not like he needs the money from the contract, he makes significantly more through endorsements. Big market team means more endorsement money. The team having mroe money to spend means a better (theoretically) supporting cast. A better supporting cast means a better chance at a title. The Cavs can offer him the most money, plus still have money left over to make a run at Wade or Bosh.

Off Topic Question: 2010 Free Agent Class

The Cavs can offer LeBron an max deal at $133 million, and the most any other team can offer is $102 million. I don't see him walking away from 30 million dollars.

THE OFFICIAL TRADE TURKOGLU IDEAS THREAD

I am pretty sure that Hedo is going to be looking for a 5 year deal or better if possible...this is his last chance to cash in... Your right. I just realize that Jackson has 2 year left on his current contract. So Turk will most likely want a deal similar to the one Maggette got this summer.
