Trades were good I think. We finally committed to bottoming out and embracing youth. We got a ton of future flexibility, picks and young talent. Also of note, none of the guys we traded have contributed much to their new teams.

Our best players near the end of the year were in no particular order, Wendell Carter, Cole Anthony, Chuma Okeke and RJ Hampton.

Are the pieces we got back possible building blocks for the future or just placeholders ? Are we still building around Isaac and Fultz?  I saw Fultz FT% was highest on the team, thats been a nice surprise, I remember he was struggling when he came over. Guess both him and Isaac are dealing with injuries ? Are both expected to be healthy for the next season ?

Anything exciting in this years draft ? I see new rules are in play for the lottery, that's good to see we at least tanked properly and ended up with top % for 1st pick.

Vucevic and Aminu to Chicago for Wendell Carter Jr, Otto Porter Jr, 2021 top 4 protected first and 2023 top 4 protected first

Gordon and Gary Clark to Denver for RJ Hampton, Gary Harris and a 2025 top 5 protected first

Fournier to Boston for two second round picks, not sure the years on em, but we turned his contract in to a pretty big trade exception

Thanks, how were these trades accepted, do we think we got good enough returns for them ? Who we are now our best guys ?  Was just scrolling through recaps of last games, and havent recognized any of the players heh.

  3. Do we have a thread that talks about this seasons recap ? I havent been following much of the NBA since last March (?) when regular season was stopped.

I just came back and noticed we finally blew up the team, and Im trying to figure out what did we get back in return?  Can someone give me a recap on the main trades we did (Vuc, AG, Fournier), and injury updates? I see Markele and Ross are hurt, how is Isaac holding up ?

    Thanks!

Yeah, it’s infuriating. I think Cuban is the only one that stepped up from the ownership end

Alex Martins said on the press conference they will take care of all workers, like they always did before. For example during the lockout year.

Just because it wasnt posted on social media by everyone doesnt mean they arent taking care of it.

In 15 mins, when my son wakes up, I get to explain to him that we won’t be going to the game tonight, and he won’t be on the court paired up with a Magic player during the national anthem, and we won’t be cutting down the net on the court after the game, and he won’t be getting a Jonathan Isaac bobble head ...on his 8th birthday. Thanks NBA

Really, you are blaming the NBA ? Health comes before the entertainment. Just enjoy the day with your son. You guys will go to the game when they resume. Would you really want to go and risk getting your whole family getting infected just so you could have the bobble head ? Ridiculous. There will be 100s of games left, but we only have 1 life each.  Happy birthday to your little buddy!

No updates. But I believe he will personally. Just opinions of course

    From a few days ago:

Orlando Magic president Jeff Weltman has provided an unfortunate update on the status of 22-year-old forward Jonathan Isaac, who is currently dealing with a knee injury. Weltman recently made an appearance on ESPN’s Afternoons with Scott Anez podcast and revealed Isaac isn’t expected back this season: “Yeah, I never want to say a thousand percent, but I think we’re not expecting him back, put it that way,” Weltman responded when asked if he could confirm if Isaac is expected to sit out the remainder of the season. “And if we’re pleasantly surprised then so be it, but the fact of the matter is the longer you’re out you’re gonna get de-conditioned and we don’t ever wanna rush our guys back or put them in a position to get re-injured, god forbid. We’re taking a very cautious approach as we always do.”

It's so weird that he's not a better defender. Everything about him offensively is exactly what I thought it'd be. Defense I figured he'd be above average but he's garbage.

Does it ever happen that someone who is bad on defense for one team suddenly becomes a good/average defender on another team ? Would  you say if someone is a good defender they will have good defensive stats even on a bad team?

Maybe because they didn’t try for him? Boston trades him. His time with Philly wasn’t exactly filled with rainbows. A lot of stuff was coming out. Maybe not true but some GM’s probably didn’t want to touch him. Risk? What risk did we take? Jonathon Simmons? Again, is he even in the NBA? We had nothing to lose. I’m not bashing the pick. I want him to succeed and he has the potential but we ca’t always rely sitting on the bottom waiting for **** to fall. That may work in the end but yeah 2030 bruh.

Thats the point. Low risk moves that wont leave us handicapped for the next few years if they backfire. We are still dealing with what previous front office left us. Takes time to recycle in a way where we wont end up at the bottom of the league for the next 5 years. Yeah it sucks for us to see things the same for 1-2 years, but the summer with cap space doesnt come around every year. Need to wait for it and be in position where we can get something done when that time comes.

Magic have applied for two DPE’s for JI and Aminu. Not a good sign for a JI comeback this season.

See earlier posts, there is no downside to applying for the exception for injured players. If player recovers before end of the season he is still free to play. If he comes back before we used the exception, then we cannot use the exception.

My criticism is they don’t seem to be able to pull anything off unless it’s pretty much handed to them.

Thats their MO. They will wait for trades that benefit us instead of forcing trades where we would overpay.  Have to be patient and wait for the right moment, but opportunities like this do come, just like one with Fultz did.

They are not about the short term unless its a move that would also have positive long term impact, like getting draft picks, unloading salaries or just a straight up better fit in some player.

Yeah that's the issue, why would the Knicks do it? Hear me out i know Morris is a rental but he would definitely help us this year. Also Frank is signed next year cheap and we could really take  a chance on another guard considering it's dj's last year. So what i am saying is it maybe we send next years first top 5 protected?

I can't see any other reason the Knicks do it otherwise. Surely getting another forward and guard is worth it!

Trading future assets for short term help isnt in line with Weltmans/Hammonds philosophy. Dont see it happening since we are not title contenders.

I think it's because we're unable to create good shots so possessions take more time. We're forcing more turnovers but not getting a faster pace.

I think thats to be expected with bench players taking up more time, we are lacking offensive chemistry with changes in the lineup. It was very obvious when Aminu/Wes and even DJ had the ball in their hands. Heck even Fultz was having trouble finding spots to drive when he was surrounded with our bench guys. Things looked better early in the game with more starters playing together.

I guess I kind of get this, but the league really shouldn't get involved in this. Teams should have a right to play whatever players they want. Say they wanted to play a player only a little bit because of a matchup issue. Would the league fine them if it was a 'star' player? Where do you draw the line? Didn't Pops get in trouble a while back for resting healthy players, but he was doing it for the good of the team?

Fans dont get discount on tickets and expect to see full product. Thats what it comes down to. For some people its once in a lifetime chance to visit a city or go see a team play, and then get what, DNP on super star of the team?

How far off is Fultz from playing? I assume we dont expect him this season?

I think we will be very careful, but if doctors say hes fine to play, I dont think we will sit him for no good reason.  All depends how his rehab goes, could be out for rest of the season too.

  15. Vuc and Evan with the worst +/- for the night, coincidence? At some point we have to stop saying its just a meaningless stat. We go down whenever they dont bring it on offensive end.

Unless we find a way to utilize them better either from the bench or in some other way, I will be very surprised if they are still on the team when season ends.

I feel like we gave them enough chances. We changed coaches. We surrounded them with super athletic guys. Its still not working. At some point you have to realize that and try something new.
