Official Game Thread: Magic Vs. Lakers Sun. 2/13

Results oriented criticism/praise aside... That's the intensity the Magic need from JRich consistently. Defensively, its inexcusable for him to be surrendering blow byes w/regularity. If he brings the intensity vs. regs he brought vs. Kobe, he's at worst not part of the problem. Offensively, he can't relegate himself to being a spot up shooter. He has the ability to put the ball on the deck for a couple dribbles and finish & that's what this team needs when the offense bogs down. I don't think he even scored in the 2nd half & he didn't have a special offensive game by any stretch, but he was aggressive, and that would translate to better effectiveness most of the time, & surely vs. many teams the Magic have been dropping games to.

What the Hell is Wrong With Courtney Lee?

quote: Originally posted by jedimindtricks:Why does he always do this every random game? He will just become a passive offensive turtle hiding in his shell during the game. This was a MAJOR complaint at WKU and even in his NCAA tourny game against UCLA he was like this. I love Lee, and when he actually plays and shoots on offense, he is money. Yet, sometimes he decides to divulge and take the back seat. It gets frustrating some times. And by the way he is the definition of FINESSE. The epitome of it. The way he moves and plays is like an art. I have never seen anyone move with such fluidity in my life. I'm dumbfounded by this post from beginning to end. Perhaps you've gotten spoiled by Lee's recent play, but his offense has been wildly inconsistent all year. He averages like 10 points, 8 shots, & 1 FT per game as a starter. So, he has 6 pts. on 5 shots, & 4 ft's tonight. Really not that dramatic of a fall off. Lee was passive against UCLA? If passive is putting up 29 shots when you can't find the rim with the ball, I'd hate to see him being aggressive. Reality, Westbrook just owned him that game. Lee is the epitome of finesse & fluidity? He is far more Nick Anderson than Tracy McGrady. quote: Originally posted by God hates Magic fans:10 points from the bench, why the **** was JJ stuck on the bench? Better ?, why isn't Battie stuck on it? If Lee & Pietrus each continue getting about 30 minutes per game, we'll have far more productive nights from them than not.

Magic vs Raptors Game Thread 4/1/09

quote: The Magic, who have now posted back-to-back 50-win seasons and are two-time Southeast Division champions, are 48-1 when leading a game with five minutes to go. Shaq was right, we are front runners. Did we score 100? Since Kitno unearthed that little nuggest, we are 6-0 when we score 100, 1-2 when we don't. I have a feeling that's going to be a huge stat in the playoffs again.

does anybody deserve to have jersey retired from orlando magic

Would I retire the # of a player who's best known for missing 4 straight game icing FT's in the Finals and becoming a mental midget? No. Personally, I would retire #10 before I did that. I'm not saying I would retire #10, but DA personified everything that is positive about sports, and did earn league wide honors. Given D12's stature, I would be reserving that "honor" for him if it was my call.

    20 years of coach's

quote: Originally posted by EnFuego: quote: Originally posted by KillingInTheNameOf:No_Ma'am covered the other questions... Best coach, easy, Chuck Daly. The mistake was not hiring him 5 years earlier and waisting the Shaq/Penny team on Napoleon. SVG is easily the 2nd best coach we've had. Guokas would be 3rd imo. Brilliant x's & o's coach, but was horrible relating to the players, and his substitution patterns were even worse. Ghost, I have to disagree on the top pick. Chuck is a hall of famer and I would have loved to see him here earlier, Stan has not yet earned the right to be considered in Chuck's league. With that said, I never felt Chuck put too much effort while he was here. He cashed in but I don't think his heart was in it. He was brought back from retirement and I think he saw Penny as his worst and just punched the clock for the most part. Stan, on the other hand, has crafted a rotation that made advantages out of our weaknesses and his passion cannot be better documented than his near heart attack spins on the bench with a minute left on a blow-out win because someone didn't block-out on the post. To say Chuck was our best coach because of his overal career would mean we have to start slotting in Patrick Ewing, Shawn Kemp, and Dominique Wilkins among our greates players even though they all played here when they were but a mere shadow of themselves. I totally disagree with this assessment of Daly's tenure in Orlando. First, he completely re-tooled the roster, and established a culture of defense & toughness almost overnight. For the first time ever in Orlando I might add. He exiled players like Siekly & 3D who played zero D, he turned Nicks career completely around for 2 years, and barely utilized players like DA, Outlaw, & Strong became very solid NBA players during his tenure. The Magic were a .500 team in his first year without Penny. We weren't a great team, but I thought he did a great job of coaching that team, and getting the most out of the talent we had. Year #2 was the strike shortened season & the Magic spent nearly the entire season challenging for the top spot in the East until Penny decided getting stats as a SG was more important than winning games as the PG. That threw the entire rotation out of whack and ironically, Philly bounced us in the first round of the playoffs. I say ironically because Daly lobbied very hard for a trade of Penny for Iverson that Phily put to us, but ownership would not sign off on it. In the end, he was left saying I told you so after Penny single handedly destroyed that team, and then decided he needed a change of scenery following the season.

Thats what we are talking about, not the greatest "Laker", or the greatest "Heat", or the greatest "Sun" of all time. You know if you think about thats 4 championships we "COULD'VE" had, if Shaq had stayed. But he left, and before someone jumps in and starts bringing up Coach Brian Hill, Shaq did not have a gun to his head, he could' have stayed. And so as Shaq left the "Magic" he took with him 4 possible championships. When Shaq left, our team went straight down hill (no pun intended). Our Team the "Orlando Magic" seemed like a team destined for failure. Then as another horrible non promising season goes down in flames, we get another take at number 1 in the draft. As if the stars were align, there just happened to be a young "shaq-like" center just stepping out of High School.(Omeka was never going to be like Shaq) (Just so happens, that a year before I read about him in the ESPN Mag) And I guess its pretty safe to assume, that our front office seen something in him that blew their mind. Because with that number one pick, we drafted Dwight Howard. And as always when it comes to the Orlando Magic, alot of people were not pleased (including T Mac). So we set on another T-mac-less season with questions, left with 2 draft picks Howard and Nelson. What we learned from that 36 win 46 loss season, which is better than the last T-Mac season, is Dwight is simply a "BEAST". His first point was a dunk against Memphis. Dunk after dunk he finished his "first" game with 18pts, 9 rebs at the age of 18. Its ridiculous to have an 18 yr old Center, who is 6'11, to almost have a double-double in his first game. The last thing we learned during that season. Dwight has better gift's than Shaq, hands down. Dwight was faster, quicker, pound for pound stronger, and could simply jump out of the building, better than Shaq. Dwight could of went to any NBA team, if he truly wanted to, but he, Dwight Howard chose to stay. Dwight chose to stay with the Orlando Magic, because he wants the Magic to win championships. Dwight gave us that reassurance by signing a long term deal, when at the same time Stars like Wade and Lebron were signing shorter deals. Dwight has taken the "Tim Duncan" approach so far, and right now the Spurs are loving life. So I believe, the Orlando Magic will also start to love life. Dwight has already passed Shaq on a couple of rebounding records. Last year Dwight posted a 14.2 rebounding year, Shaq's best was 13.9 (in his whole career). And Dwight is only 22. Dwight has taken us to the playoffs twice, and each time we get to the next level. Dwight has also brought back the shine, that the franchise had during the Shaq yrs. Dwight has made our small 1989 expansion team, which seemed most people forgot after Shaq left, become news again in the NBA. Dwights career vs Shaq's career, the answer is easy. Shaq has the hardware to prove it. But he didnt have that hardware while with the Magic. So when it comes to Dwight vs Shaq on "Greatest Magic" player off all time, then Shaq takes a seat in the back of the "Magic" bus. Because last time Shaq was driving, he went to L.A. Dwight is here, he has much to prove, but he wins over Shaq in a land slide. And dont be surprised if Dwight out does Shaq, when its all said and done. Quality, would have been the nuts if you slammed Bianchi personally, but it still gets the seal of approval

Trade discussion thread between Magic/Memphis Forum members

btw, i was walking to movie and a pizza co. last night and I heard talks between these two teams was dead, but could always heat up again as options dry up, and Orlando makes more serious offer. Of note worthy mention, don't be surprised if Franny is involved in a deal if a deal ever goes down between these two teams. Apparently, providing source for such info is not only irrelevant, but arrogant. So I'll just say the wind carried it to me...
