  1. I think Melo is deciding between LA and NYC. At least I heard that last night when I was out. Summer league in town, lots of good folks to chat with about these things.

It's funny that players keep passing on Chicago. Great city, great coach, a solid group of players including a pg that might still be a superstar. It's a perfect fit for Melo. I don't get it.

  2. The Ben Gordon contract is the first Rob move that is legitimately worrying. It doesn't mean much now given it's a 2 year deal with a TO but if Rob is willing to give close to MLE money to guys who were among the worst players in the league then I'm concerned about what type of contracts he may give out in the future.

I would counter that by pointing out that the Magic have plenty of capspace to sign players now and Hennigan is using restraint by not committing to big long term contracts. If he is resisting the temptation to offer Haywood 12 million a season then I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he's not going to going Rashard Lewis on us again and bid against himself.

  3. Without a doubt, I think his plan is the best for the long term success of this franchise. Short term? No, but making short term moves without a long term plan is part of the reason we ended up in the predicament we were in, and that needs to be corrected.

Short term moves without a long term plan is a recipe for having to buy out Hedo's contract.

  4. Thanks for the link....Yeah, our 3 lottery draft picks combined for 11 of the teams 17 turnovers....But I thought Olidipo played well....Actually turned his ankle but told the coach not to take him out, in a summer league !!!....I can tell Dipo is tough, mentally and physically.

Didn't you just say it was only one game like 3 posts ago? Did you somehow forget that fact when not talking about a former Kentucky player?

  5. This was written in late March....Has quotes from Draft Express, Gordon's coach, Matt Moore of CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated and Bleacher Report....

Aaron Gordon is an intriguing NBA prospect, but is also a big risk based on not having a well-defined NBA position. He doesn’t have the offensive game yet to be a starting small forward, and isn’t strong enough to be an every-game power forward. Athletically he compares favorably with Griffin and Kenneth Faried, but lacks their strength and bulk. Gordon is still a teenager, and he has a sturdy frame, so he should be able to add muscle. But if it affects his overall athleticism, it would produce diminishing returns. He has a wealth of upside, but he’s an extremely risky top ten pick in such a deep draft. In my opinion, Gordon could benefit greatly from another year in school, but the lure of the NBA will be too tempting for him. Despite all his flaws, I still see him being taken in the 7-12 range.

Interesting read.....For the rest go here:

The writer seriously believes he was an "extremely risky pick" in the top 10? The kid would have been selected first overall in last years draft. He has no idea what he is talking about.

  6. Don't know if this is sarcasm or not...but let me just tell you guys, I have literally been following Patrick Patterson since his junior year of high school...then 3 years of college and his time in the NBA. Solid, solid player. Will play for the team not himself, good rebounder, decent jumper and can stretch to hit the 3. Great locker room guy. Typically will make the smart decision on the floor.

I know I'm biased as a KY fan and I know Orlando has had the short straw on some of Cal's recent players but this is not one of those guys. This would be a fantastic pick up.

Here is a small taste of what he can bring

It wasn't sarcasm. Junkie might be the biggest Kentucky homer on this forum.

  7. Dude, you're just now figuring that out ????....Old news.....

Now quick, get busy !!!!.....Bring us the latest news from Magical and the boyz.....I am eagerly anticipating your latest installment of what Rob and the boyz are up to.

Please don't sit here and pretend that you weren't the biggest wannabe insider on this forum a couple of years ago. Emailing every beat reporter who would respond back to you, hanging off of every word that Otis Smith's son said, sending pms to every insider on this forum to "compare notes" to include RevTY and Catman. Don't act like you are above being an insider because that's precisely what you were dying to be known as. Your claim to fame for all that hard work: "breaking the Brandon Bass signing" exactly 5 minutes before John Denton released his story on the subject. Good work.

Huh, I see Catman already called you on some of your nonsense.

  8. I wouldn't call what happened in '03-'04 "tanking", considering that we had absolutely no talent on that squad to win games anyways. That was just sucking.

And sure, it's a 6 year plan if you take everything incredibly literally and willfully miss the point of what I was trying to say, which is that to improve, you need to take steps and actually IMPROVE, not constantly tank for lottery picks.

Sucking, and getting a #1 pick, ala the '03-'04 season that led to Dwight Howard, is not the same as "tanking" to purposefully get the #1 pick, which is when fans actually root for the team to lose and get mad when we win.

Which is pretty much the mentality that leads me to not posting on here as often anymore.

They deliberately held McGrady out of the last 15 games of the season. I smell a little tanking in that decision.

  9. I think Parsons is a solid player. I just don't think you add higher priced free agents when you don't have an alpha dog superstar locked up first. Sacrificing that financial flexibility prematurely doesn't make sense to me. What happens if we sign Parsons and then in a year sign Carmelo (I know, I'm just using his name as a hypothetical)? They probably don't play that well effectively and we are looking to move Parsons contract. I think you sign the major free agent you want and then sign the minor free agents that compliment his game after the fact.

  10. So, if I got this right, Pelton thinks the Magic had the worst draft in the league last night strictly because of shooting. Lets forget for a second that the Magic came away with 2 top 10 prospects that fill positions of need for this team, the Raptors reached hard for a player that probably would have been available in the middle of the second round. Are you kidding me?

It really does feel like Junkie has been subtly trolling this forum for several years.

  11. Watch Blake Griffen in College then watch Aaron Gordon in college ... The dunks are identical and to think Gordon has more athletic ability is scary. Also I would say Gordon's D might be better and if he can find that mid range shot we're in for a treat! I'm drooling over here so I'll stop

Yeah, I think Gordon could walk onto a NBA court tomorrow and be a better defender than Griffin. Lets hope his offensive game improves like Griffin's did.

  12. And Chauncey Billups

    And Tayshaun Prince

    And Rip Hamilton

All of which we have none of.

People who keep comparing him to Kahwi Leonard (or now, Ben Wallace), keep acting like those teams didn't have much better talent surrounding those guys, something that we don't currently have.

    And Rasheed Wallace.

All of those guys were roleplayers with the possible exception of Billups. Good players but not great players. The point I was making it that if Gordon's floor is a more athletic (and bigger) Ben Wallace then I'm happy with that pick. We aren't trying to win a championship next season. Next season is about player growth and seeing improvement on the court. We are probably 2 years away from conversations about contending....maybe one year away from the playoffs. So even if you don't think the players listed above aren't on the roster - and I personally think you are off on that assessment - it doesn't matter because the Magic still have 2 years of development and additional player acquisition (including a crap ton of cap space) to go before we reach that point.

BTW, I don't think that is Gordon's floor simply because he can finish at the rim. Something Wallace could never do with any consistency. Still, the Pistons won a championship by starting a guy at center that was a complete non factor on the offensive end.
