    Moving On

Just a quick note to let all of you know that I will be relinquishing my role as Administrator of the Magic Message Boards on June 26 to pursue another opportunity in the Orlando area. The Message Boards were one of my first projects after I joined the Magic three years ago and I've enjoyed watching them take off and grow over the last couple of years. But don't worry, I'm leaving you in good hands. Your moderators here do a great job of keeping things in order. FENDI, Adam_Magic, Marc Acres 3:16, Live or Die Magic and davcivic have volunteered their time to help make this place enjoyable for all that visit. You'll also begin to see Admin and Krucial07 joining the ranks in the coming weeks to help out in my departure. And as I parting note, I simply ask that everyone continue to play nice, be objective and courtesy to others' opinions and keep supporting your Orlando Magic with every ounce of energy you have. A championship will be coming to Orlando very soon. GO MAGIC!
  2. Hello all....long time Moderator, first time regular user here.... In light of the Brighthouse-FSN situation, I thought you would all find this interesting. It's in this week's Sports Business Journal. I'll include the link below, but I believe you must have a subscription to see the content. I'll include the entire copy below... quote: The NBA is "poised to become the first major U.S. sports league to stream live games in local markets, an aggressive offering that will set up a showdown between cable operators" and RSNs, according to Lombardo & Ourand of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. The league has authorized teams to launch video streaming, interactive TV and VOD services "by the start of the 2008-09 season." NBAE Exec VP/Business Affairs & General Counsel Bill Koenig: "We hope to have a model in place this season." Lombardo & Ourand note the service that is "certain to create the most waves is the streaming, which is one of the reasons why the league is negotiating on behalf of its 30 teams to cut live local deals." The plan "would allow viewers to watch live games online within their local market for the first time." The NBA will use "geo-blocking technology to ensure that people outside of a team's territory will not be able to access its games online to comply with the league's local marketing rules." The league's decision to "open its broadband rights creates a minefield of issues between local sports networks and their cable and satellite carriers." One RSN exec said, "I can tell you that we're going to push back. (Cable and satellite operators) will hate this concept." But FSN "hopes to be able to convince cable and satellite operators that streamed games will not hurt their core linear TV business." NBA execs indicated that they "don't know whether the games will be free or not, though the NBA will leave that decision to teams." NBA officials also are "uncertain whether the games will be hosted on the local team site, the RSN site, or both." Details of advertising "within the feeds and who sells that are also still to be worked out" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/18 issue). http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/article/123314

    Scot Pollard you finally.........

There is perhaps no one funnier in the NBA than Scot Pollard. He is a team player and overall great guy. Very happy to see two more Jayhawks with NBA rings. Congrats Paul and Scot!
  10. Wow...looks like I shouldn't have settled on the first offer. It appears I definitely had options!

Thanks everyone. I may still jump on from time to time and participate in the discussions. Just don't hold your breath...

Rich, I'm afraid we're going to need more than a pledge. Your delegate count isn't enough to push you over the threshold for a nomination yet.

Attention: Site Down Time on June 17

I've confirmed it is indeed 6:00PM PST (9:00 ET) that the maintenance will begin. If the update does take 24 hours, you can expect the site to be down for a good portion of tomorrow as well.

Attention: Site Down Time on June 17

Guys, I don't know if today's down time by Groupee is suppose to be 6:00 AM PST (which would have been 30 minutes ago) or 6:00 PM PST. I guess just be prepared for either one. If you try accessing the site or it all of the sudden stops coming up, it's a good sign they've started their maintenance.

    Would you welcome back T-Mac?

A pipe dream I know, but T-Mac and Shaq are both free agents heading into the 2010-11 season....the same season the new arena will open... T-Mac production slows by then, but he's still a 15 ppg guy. Shaq decides he'll retire in a Magic uniform. New arena opens to much success, hosting All-Star game. Magic led by Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis to first NBA title. It all sounds good on paper... HMM....

    Fun Free Agent Comparison:

I think the one point you are neglecting is the long term value of Lewis. Sure, you are investing a lot of money into one player, but this is an All-Star caliber player to compliment Dwight. Rashard is going to be around, playing at a high level alongside Dwight for a long time. How much life do those other guys have? We had enough of Grant Hill and Carter is showing signs of age. Billups was never going to leave Detroit, so he wasn't even in the picture. And if you think Rashard disappears at times on the floor, then Wallace has already enrolled in the witness protection program. Yes, it straps us in our abilities to sign other players and that's where this organization is going to be tested - in its ability to scout, draft and sign complimentary players that will help produce a winning product. I too am disappointed in Rashard's production thus far, but I'm convinced we made the right decision based on the personnel that were available to improve our squad.

    Wanna Complain to Brighthouse?

The game isn't on ESPN on Friday. ESPN is showing Celtics vs. Heat and Lakers vs. Jazz. I think the game is on Sun Sports on Friday.
