HW Article: "Magic Shopping for a Guard"

If we could somehow get Hinrich I would be ecstatic. He can play the 1 or 2, pass, shoot, and defend.

LOL I know you are kidding but Miller would be the perfect target because his contract expires after this season so you are not adding signifigant long term payroll. Im sure other teams have better pieces but he would be more than sufficient to say the least. What stinks is he got hurt last night

Just to hear this reported makes me hopeful. I guess Otis was scared of my e-mail (j/k).

HW Article: "Magic Shopping for a Guard"

quote: Magic Shopping For A Guard: The Orlando Magic are shopping for a point guard. If last night's drubbing by the New Orleans Hornets and Chris Paul was any indication the Magic need a guard in the worst way. Magic coach Stan Van Gundy told reporters last night after the game that he and Magic GM Otis Smith were on the same page regarding roster needs and that Otis was talking to a number of teams. Van Gundy would not discuss which players could be headed out, but did caution that any deal the Magic made today would not likely be a splashy move, saying that his core players now, would be his core tomorrow, adding that any player brought in would likely be a support player and that making a radical change was unlikely. Van Gundy said any deal done before the deadline would need to line up with the team's off-season plans to re-sign Hedo Turkoglu. Magic sources however countered that while the company line was no "massive" changes, that if the right point guard surfaced today the Magic might be willing to move some of the previously "untouchables"

We had a very bad break with Jameer going down. Before that, there wasn't much talk about breaking up the team. So is the thought now give up on this team long term? Wow, it better work or Otis will get killed for not being patient. Next year sounds far away now but soon enough it will be here and everyone will be ready to judge if trades that are made now leave us in bad shape long term. Hedo is pressing and trying to be the point guard he'll never be. But he's not as bad as he looked last night, please don't short sell him in a panic sale! As for short term PG solutions, we can do much better than what we have but I doubt there's anyone out there that we can get without breaking up the team long term, that would make us a title contender. EnFuego, before Jameer went down a good portion of this board wanted to trade Turk. His play has been erratic and questionable all year. In his career, he has had only one year where he was considered a consistent starter, which was last year. Couple that with the reality that he could easily walk this summer. So why not seriously consider trading him? To not do so would be foolish. So the question is not whether or not to "give up on this team long-term," but whether or not to build with Turk long-term. Second, if Otis leaves the team as currently constructed for the rest of the year, we MIGHT be a .500 club. Since Jameer's injury, our offense has become a leaderless disaster. Thus, the request for a pg. *EDIT: Just found this prophetic comment from Hollinger from this past summer: quote: Turkoglu's 2007-08 season qualifies as a Fluke Rule campaign http://insider.espn.go.com/nba...llinger?playerId=862

Junkie, hopefully fans will step up NOW and be heard before the deadline. Yes, I am amped up. Our current roster is severely flawed. Is there a way to send this thread through PM to the entire board?

    Otis' Big Mistake '09

Surely the owners can't be hopeful with this situation and Otis' lack of appropriate action. If we don't act, I am hoping Knappy feels driven to action.

Barring no more moves, mark this down. Not trading for Earl Watson, or another half-way decent pg, will mean our team will be toast come playoff time. Two third string point guards are not gonna lead us anywhere. Watson is a solid pg on a rebuilding team. The man is a good passer and defender. He is still young (29). Acquiring him probably would have only cost us Bogans and Cook, as well carrying some additional salary (a couple million) next year. This trade would have given us a shot, at least a shot, at a championship this year. Plus, it would have solidified the pg position for next year. Is that worth the extra green? Obviously not. Boo to management and possibly ownership for not taking this small risk. Edit: I am guessing there are other pgs that could have been had, too, instead of Lue. I just chose Watson b/c he seemed the most obvious fit for our team.

Poll: What Should Otis Do With Turk?

At this point I'd be good with Haslem for Turk. I'd rather have a 6 million/year Haslem instead of a 9-11 million/year (projection) Turk.

    Otis' Big Mistake '09

This team has three directions before tomorrow: 1. Trade for a decent pg 2. Trade Turk for our future 3. Stay the course and watch our season spiral downward. (Perhaps the good with this scenario is that JJ and Lee would develop more???) P.S.--Turk is a spaz running the point
