A few tweaks as in replacing four of our five starters and most of the bench? Let’s not close our eyes to how awful this team has been for 5+ years. That would be a recipe for continuing to be terrible.

Fair point, but two different coaches with lots of NBA experience (Skiles/Vogel) independently decided he didn’t deserve playing time, and they see a lot more of the players than we do. Doesn’t mean they’re infallible but not a strong recommendation either. I bet people were having this very same discussion about Darko. We will see if Mario has a place in the NBA. Personally I think the odds are less than 50/50. As an aside, plenty of other players from his draft year are having meaningful impacts for their teams.

I agree but that wasn’t really the point of the discussion. There were a number of posters who’ve been saying for awhile that if we would only replace Vuch with Biyombo in the starting lineup, the team would be much better. My point was that we’ve done just that, and it hasn’t made any difference.

That comment, attacking another poster without providing any rationale for what you’re saying, adds nothing of value to this discussion.

He was far from great in his rookie season. Some players are just busts, no matter what you do. Not sure if Mario is one but it’s a close call.

I’d be surprised if any team thought Mario was worth more than 5 million per year. I guess we will find out soon enough.

When you give up 107 in three quarters, you aren't going to win too many games. These last quarter runs after the other team gets way ahead and lets up mean almost nothing.

Well with all the injuries, the new management may need another year to evaluate what we've got.

It is pretty amazing, isn't it? I mean they're going at a 140 point clip. Fortunately it looks like all those baskets have tired them out a bit. Time for our usual heroic 4th quarter run that falls short.

I agree. It's why I speculated in an earlier post about at least some of our players being somewhat uncoachable.

I completely agree with this. I guess the question then is why Vogel might be losing the locker room while coaches for other losing teams aren't. Is it Vogel, is it our players, or is it some combination of both?

I think it's still an open question. He improved a lot this year.

I think that's a pretty good explanation. However, you could say the same thing about any losing team. And in general you don't see those other teams giving up on their coach, and just doing their own thing (and not playing defense at all). So there seems to be more to it.

Watch his pace when he goes up and down the court, and when he’s making cuts on the offensive end. He looks like he’s going half speed to me.

I dunno. Not something I know enough about to argue, that’s for sure. I was just throwing out ideas as to why it appears, at least in a few games recently, that the team stopped trying and just gave up. It certainly makes the coach look bad when the other team parades down the middle of the court for barely contested layups repeatedly. Once or twice, you can blame missed assignments, but when it happens again and again and again..... It’s almost as though the players know that they’re making the coach look bad and just don’t care. It’s why I agree strongly with where P4TW was going with a couple of his comments above.

I agree. I have seen a number of games in the past few weeks where the team has gone completely off the rails, giving up multiple uncontested layups and going one-on-one on the offensive end. It does make you wonder if Vogel is starting to lose the locker room. Of course, this group of guys may also be completely uncoachable.....

So far we are not making it over the low bar I set for this season in my last sentence above. I wish we were at least more fun to watch but it looks like the team is giving up. I especially hate watching Mario jog up and down the court. He is not good enough to be going at 3/4 speed.
