Because everyone we draft will probably not get minutes. It's highly unlikely we can trade up as high as pick 6 in this draft and we have a 6th pick on our roster playing 18mpg. It seems reasonable to assume whoever we pick is likely going to be our 15th man and up and down from the g league in year one.

At this point the fact that I care about winning games in March and not tanking is a W. Everything else is a major bonus but I'm rooting hard to get to 50 wins. This franchise has only done that 7 times in its entire history.

Zach Edey doesn't seem like the type of player this front office would target.

Heat and Pacers both lost last night. You love to see it. Tonight's games of note: 76ers host the Pelicans Cavs host the Timberwolves Heat @ Thunder And of course the most important is the Magic go to MSG to take on the Knicks which has massive seeding implications since the Knicks can jump us into 4th with a win.

I agree mentality and intangibles matter a lot, but skill and talent and complimentary roster building matters too. Especially when you're a good team trying to take the next step into legitimate contendership. Castle being an "Alpha guy" despite being the 4th/5th option on his college team is pretty funny. We can't find minutes for our two lottery picks from last year, what makes you think we'll find minutes for a lottery pick this year when those 2 lottery picks will (hopefully) be improved and we'll (hopefully) be pushing harder for higher seeding and more success. The bar for getting minutes on this team is only going to get steeper. If you're looking to use assets to add a piece to the starting lineup that's what the trade market is for where you'll likely get a much more immediate contributor.

Clown take. Don't give guys like that oxygen because they don't know ball.

This team just used a lottery pick on a guard who's an elite defender. Why would we use multiple assets to trade up for another? And what makes you think we'd trust Castle to take the load off of Paolo and Franz as a ball handler when we haven't trusted AB? There'd be no space for Ron Holland to cut or slash into on this team on account of him being a bad shooter and teams packing the paint on Franz and Paolo.

I've watched teams basically not guard Castle on the perimeter. He's the opposite of a good fit on this team and he's not really a very good scorer yet for a "scoring combo guard". His combination of size and length with passing/handling and defense is intriguing, I think he's a good prospect, I've got him in the lottery, but I can't see a compelling case for us to be trading up to pick him. Think Holland is a pretty bad fit for us as well to be honest. And again I have him in the lottery. I just wouldn't use a bunch of assets to trade up for these guys. I'd rather have Yves Missi (for example, ESPN had him mocked at 22 last update, Id be surprised if he's on the board when we pick) and 2 first round picks than Ron Holland (on this team specifically, I think Ron Holland could be a really really good NBA player but I think he'll need a long leash and a lot of reps to develop).

We now have the 9th easiest schedule since we played a bunch of bad teams in a row. Fortunately for us, we still have an easier schedule than all our seeding competitors except the Heat.

I admire the confidence but he needs to pull it back. To be fair to him It's probably hard to rewire your brain when you've been the best player on the floor and the lead scorer/ball handler your whole life but if he ever actually wants to be the starter on a good team he'll need to be more of an off-ball player. He's actually pretty efficient everywhere 16 feet and in but we don't really need that as much since our two best players live in the paint anyway.

Not convinced our pick and a 2025 Denver pick is enough to get you into the lottery where I'd be willing to bet all of those guys get picked. I like Castle as a prospect but he's also not better than Anthony Black and a similar archetype so like... Why do that?

I'm going to go ahead and take a victory lap on my "Trayce Jackson Davis is a first round pick" take from last year. Sometimes guys are just so obviously good at the game of basketball but because of some biases or another they fall way further than they should and a smart franchise picks them and we end up with the whole "omg how did they find this guy" chatter.

Inexplicably, the Magic are 4 games back from the 2 seed (and also only 2 games ahead of the 8 seed).

I thought it was going to be one of those games after the first half but everyone locked in defensively in the second half and we got out of there with the W. Jalen, Paolo, Franz all showed up. We're always going to have a good chance when all 3 of those guys are hitting shots. AB was good too, played good defense, confident shooting, couple of nice passes. The duo of Goga and Mo gave us enough at the 5 spot between them on defense and offense respectively. Good W. Cole Anthony continues to be the most frustrating player in the rotation. 12 shot attempts 0 assists. He actually made some plays on both ends that felt big but man I'll never not groan when we enter the Cole zone (that moment where he's hit 2 shots in a row and now nobody else will get to touch the basketball for a couple possessions).

He wasn't used properly because he's a 4th option, off ball offensive player but, by virtue of being a top 2 player in terms of talent on the team, he was forced into a role beyond his means. He also asked to be traded.

Markelle not on the IR today so theories were correct we were resting him for the second night of the back to back. JI and Gary Harris are questionable with injury maintenance. Gary Harris has been balling lately so I hope he plays.

Antonio Reeves is only 6 months younger than Cole Anthony who's been in the league for 4 years. And I'm not huge on Reeves' feel for the game at all for someone who's one of the oldest guys on the floor every night. He'll get picked because he's 6'6 and can shoot but I'm not super high on him and I wouldn't pick him first round. Justin Edwards might actually get picked first round, 6'8 guys who can shoot usually get valued and then get 2nd and 3rd chances to stick in the league as well but I don't love the lack of explosion, I don't love the handle, he doesn't get to the FT line much. He's had some really bad turnovers in games I've seen this season (admittedly more early in the season than lately). I'm not prepared to bail D.J. Wagner out with the "he's a Kentucky guard" thing. I get that he's very young and he's a good passer, he takes care of the ball pretty well too and he plays defense. But he's statistically neither a good finisher at the rim or a good shooter and he doesn't get to the FT line much so where does his offense come from? And beyond that, nothing else stands out statistically either. His assist numbers aren't anything to right home about, he doesn't get rebounds, steals or blocks with any kind of significant regularity... if he went to Iowa instead of Kentucky we're likely talking about him returning for his sophomore season and not about his draft stock. Ivisic I can obviously see the appeal someone so big who blocks shots and shoots it from 3. I even understand why our franchise specifically might be interested in a prospect like that. And if we picked him, look pro scouts have a lot more intel than I do and WeltPark have done a decent job in the draft lately so I'd actually be pretty excited. But would I personally pick him first round? I don't think so. He's older than both Anthony Black and Jett Howard and he's playing 11mpg in college.

That was legitimately one of the worst games of basketball I've ever seen. And I watched some bad Magic games this past decade. At least it was bad and we won. Got to get right for the Wizards, those guys aren't good but they can score the ball and the way our offense played in this game they could pull away from us if we don't lock in. We're the 4 seed. But we're 1.5 games back from the 8 seed. This isn't the time for dropping a game you should win.

The Miami Heat now have an easier remaining schedule than us. That's not ideal for us with them already having the tie breaker over us too.

You know, I think Yves Missi is a very interesting prospect in general but also for us specifically, especially if we don't bring back Goga. I finally got to watch him in a real game, had always kind of assumed he was a Clint Capela type shot blocking and dunks guy from what I read and highlights but he's a really fluid mover and surprisingly nimble on both ends with flashes of ball handling to score on drives and create for himself or punish slower bigs in pick and roll. The passing feel doesn't look terrible either from what I've seen. His assist and turnover stats are bad but I think there's upside for him to develop there. He's a late comer to basketball as well I gather and shows a lot of skill for his inexperience, he didn't even move to the US until 2021. If you play the percentages, worst case he's an athletic big who blocks some shots and throws down some lobs. That's still a fringe NBA player. Best case though I think is one of the best players in this draft given how good he is with limited experience in the game and how much scope for growth there could be.

The bench playing like hot garbage and allowing the Pistons to cut the 25+ point lead to 13 only for the starters to return and restore the lead in less than a minute was unbelievable really. Starting unit was awesome, Franz a little quiet again but played great defense. Bench mostly sucked except Markelle in the first half. Detroit's defense is bad bad. They had considerably more shot attempts than us and we still blew them out. Vintage Evan Fournier in Orlando, 17 points and the blow out loss. Let's keep going. Can't drop games now. We're 1 game back of the 4 seed and only 4.5 games back of the 3 seed.
