He's not a guy that they really have to move and they have a ton of young players/cap room where they dont need to take a crappy 2nd. So it's "Sure, we will take a 1st and if not we wil ljust hold on to him since we aren't tanking"
He is barely playable right now, so you aren't thinking about the long term fit. You try and rehab his value as a backup and make a move if/when you need to.
This season is lost anyway we know best case scenario we get thumped in the first round. Might as well try to make a low risk move that can possibly have long term upside.
